USA: Porsche rolls out smart glasses for its mechanics

Porsche will be supplying smart glasses to all 189 authorised dealers in the USA. The augmented realty technology is claimed to provide faster diagnosing and reduce repair time by up to 40% over the current system.

Technicians will wear the smart glasses, which will be equipped with a high-resolution camera that is capable of auto-focus and can show small details like screw threads. The glasses will also include an LED light to illuminate the work areas and a built-in projection system. These will be connected to the company's technical support team in Atlanta.

The glasses stream live video to the support team members who guide the technicians on repairs. The technician can also see tips or images posted remotely by the support team on his peripheral vision.
