CORRECT. This is last option, but better than not coming at all.

Anyways, just a few checklist items from my side about night camping:

10litres of water.
warm clothes.
bug repellent.
sunscreen.
extra plastic bags.
A good flashlight with extra batteries.
toilet paper
soap strips
sleeping bag
napkins
food
disposable cups, plates, spoons and tissues
shovel to bury waste
gas stove (if cooking)
matches
chocolates
multipurpose tools
pepper spray (if possibility of wildlife)
axe - if you want to cut wood for bonfire
fire-extinguisher
common sense

@James and those coming from Pune

As soon as you approach the Khalapur Toll Naka, DO NOT go upto the toll booth.Keep your vehicle on the extreme right. As you approach the toll booth roughly 50 ft prior to the toll booth..take a right turn. You will be stopped by the security. Tell them you have to exit to "Pen" and ask for directions, one lane is reserved for Khalapur exit.
Once you exit the Express high way go straight until there is a division.Take the left and go straight you will reach khopoli-pen road...20 km down towards pen you will reach the entry point .
BTW i will be waiting ,no one leaves until all have arrived as this place is very tricky and one can very easily miss it.

Khalapur, - Google Maps

Just came back from the site and asked the localites ,they thought I was crazy to camp and drive at night,no one had done that before, but then ,they dont know our creed
either.
Guys before we can finalize the overnight issue let me check out with the forest guys tomorrow,as the concerned person was on leave today. We dont want to have problems at night and we wanna play safe.

Allan, what are you upto,no sounds whatsoever.

Here is the map. You would have to take the exit after the food mall post the ghats or you can take the Khopoli Pali Exit after that but if you miss that one you wouldhave to come down all the way to Panvel.

@ Mohan: Since you have been there may be you can help us all with a detailed map.

Me, David and Ramesh with the MM Classic will be there at Kalamboli Mc'Donalds at 7:00AM.

My wife is also insisting to come, so just wanted to check if she has any company.

@Mohan: Just saw ur post after hitting the submit button

Im sorry if i sound old, but here goes
( devang i know your going to say "yes allan you sound old")

Apart from mohan, none of us have been to this otr spot, its basic virgin and beautiful territory.

it makes more sense to do a full day OTR on sunday since it will be our first time at this site as a group and also for most of us as individual,

Secondly we still do not have any kind of permission yet,
you dont want cops thinkng there is a rave and bust us (they might even get some stuff off us)

i really suggest we have a day time otr first, get used to the place, do a proper recce, let the villagers get used to us and our machines, locate all exists and garages nearby and the next otr have a full fleged night camp along with a lot of offroading.

Just getting back from a delhi otr, we bombay guys need to organise ourselves a tad bit better in term of food, recovery items, discipline etc.

Again my suggestion , have a fully organised sunday otr first,
get to know each other, the territiory, the area , the locals.

really sorry guys if i dont sound like ALLAN, just my two bits

All said and done Im in on SUNDAY morning with my crawler gypsy

regards...Allan(i know im getting old)

@OTR planning and discussion.

I think Allan is very right irrespective of any senile changes in him to talk about.
Without informing the forest department, late night overtures can land us all in problem.

The place is new to us( Many areas I havent explored yet myself),it would be better if we could do a full day OTR and plan the next OTR in a more organized fashion.

Also none of you guys know this place and how to get there. Once everyone gets to know the location ,individuals can merely drop in on short notice.

Good ideas never die they say and this "Night OTR,campfire, food and the next day morning OTR" idea stands and it is a mere postponement for the sake of convenience.
We can plan for it next month.I promise I will do all the necessary arrangements, after all what are friends for?.
So lets plan only the Sunday part, all of you see what you have ,make suggestions and then come back with full gear...

@cloudchaser ,if you are coming from Pune why go all the way to Kalamboli, unless you are coming by the old highway, and then too you can take a left at khopoli and meet us on the route.Kalamboli would be a waste of time and precious fuel, unless you have other reasons. We can meet you at the 1st Toll naka of "Khopoli-Pen" road.

Hi Mohan,

I would be coming from Mumbai (Borivali) but I had posted that map for Wicked Wheels reference.

How about the food arrangements?

I have a Big Ice Box which would fit fine in my boot and we can store about 20 - 30 water bottles (or any other bottles ) in it, I would just have to arrange for Some Dry Ice tomorrow evening.

Lets make a check list of things to carry and assign ownership.

Very true. I made a similar comment on how well the bangalore boys are organized on the Bangalore OTR thread. We should discuss these when we meet up.

EDIT: Just a thought: do bombay guys wanna meet up Saturday night for early dinner and discuss things to carry and form a general consensus on further things? It's better than discussing this during the OTR under the sun.

Thats a good idea. Lets decide on a convenient location to meet. I am at Borivali.
