OTR planning and discussion

Let me Update you again:

1) No permission required to off road at night.

2) No trespassing issues at all. Enjoy ,drive hither tither till your wheels drop or your juice dries up.

3) If you need to camp, there is an ancient temple open to everyone. All you need to have is your own chaddar, blanket or a sleeping bag. There is water around, a rock stream under which you can wash, bathe or even drink that water. The rule of the temple is simple, keep non-vegetarian, banned fluids and footwear outside. There is a large waterfall near the temple during the rainy season ,its just a trickle now. You are allowed to cook food in the premises provided its vegetarian. You dont need to go to the jungles for firewood, you pay and you get a bundle of logs period Dev et al can rethink strategies. I am unavailable this time for a camp, but I can show this place to those interested .If you are night offroading better get a jerry can full of fuel,as there ain't any petrol pump for 18 kms. BTW this place is a frequent destination for trekkers and like minded .

4) Do not come with Shorts or 2/3rds or whatever ,the grass is quite tall at places and it cuts. If you have long sleeved shirt all the better.

5) There is dry grass and huge wildfires have been initiated in the past by reckless smokers.

6) Should there be any problem we will get local assistance.

7) Last but not the least , tell me at what time I should meet you at the Khalapur exit.

[quote=xtreme power;1682831]Im sorry if i sound old, but here goes
( devang i know your going to say "yes allan you sound old")

Just getting back from a delhi otr, we bombay guys need to organise ourselves a tad bit better in term of food, recovery items, discipline etc.

quote]

I think Allan is right guys, we need to be little organize now, we are leaving tomorrow morning and still the program is not finalized, few of us are still planning for today evening. Please freeze the list now even if there are two list(today evening & tmrw morning).

In terms of food I think every one should carry sufficient cash to cover up food & unexpected b/d of vehicle. We should have some common fund from which we can pay for the food for every one (any nominal amount, you guys suggest).

In terms of discipline, we should have some rating system for the offraoding skills of an individual, which we will revise after each OTR. We can have 1 to 5 rating which we should follow throughout the event. We should fix the sequence of the vehicle prior to start of OTR based on this rating. for ex. if there are 10 vehicles then the sequence of vehicles should be
1 ***** (expert)
2 ***** (expert)
3 **** (experienced)
4 ** (2nd time)
5 ** (2nd time)
6 * (newbie)
7 *** (Frequent offroader)
8 **** (experienced)
9 **** (experienced)
10 ***** (expert)

Actually this kind of sequence helps everyone to cross the terrain with bunch of experienced guys always available to help them out.
We should also fix some speed limit for on-road as well as offroad.

Experts pls put up your thoughts also so we can start 2010 OTR in more organized way.

Cheers!

Crazy4power you are very right, Allan was just suggesting the same thing we need to get organized other wise its just mayhem when one gets stuck the others watch the fun it should be a joint effort, Dont know how many people are coming so how much food and water is required and also whats the approxmate cost of it per person going to be. I think as for tomorow we should each carry our own food and water and we can plan something better at lunch for the next OTR.

@Crazy Power: Wonderful thought.

@ Allan: We definitely can start a new thread on this.

This time when we meet we can appoint SPOCS for different things for example.

1. Location Survey, Permissions, etc.
2. Participants and Vehicles confirmation.
3. Recovery Readiness Expert
4. Food and Accommodation
5. Emergency Arrangements if needed.

Even if these SPOCs are not attending the event for some reason they would recommend a backup.

Also we can set a rule to freeze thing 48 hours before the event.

Anyways too little time for any discussion now.

By the way my wife and another friend would be accompanying me just in case someone is looking for company to get their spouse or gfs.
