Hi Sharath,

The Regular JEEP Rim weighs 9Kgs, the Army Rims (Pre-NGCS) LP1109 weigh 13.5Kgs.

The Army Rims have 2 major issues

i) Additional Weight

ii) Since they are second hand, they are bent & dis-balanced

The above 2 can wreak havoc on the CKKP Front Axles, inducing wheel wobble, uneven tyre wear and makes the suspension heavier.

The Regular 140PCD perforated Wheel Discs look nice but are very prone to get bent, so I would suggest the Regular JEEP Rim and 7.00X16 if you are on a budget.

As per your suggestion last evening I have decided to keep a spare OTR set which will comprise of steel rims cladded with 7-16 Superking NDMS. I guess I'd continue to use my alloys and B'stones for street just to ensure I keep the NDMS fresh for OTRs :)

Arka, whats your take on Superink NDMS? what kinda life can I expect of these, approximates if you could guide me with please...

1) looking for 7.50 X 16 tyres ( 8, 10, 12 ply ratings only) for my Land Rover
2) also looking for 9.00 X 16 tyres ( 10,12 ply max ratings only I have converted wheel discs to cut ring types.)

Hey guys , i have planned to change my gypsy's tyres to all terrain ones , i have few choices . help me out in deciding one

1. bridgestone dueler AT revo
2. BF goodrich all terrain
3. Continental AT ( forgot the full name )
4. Goodyear Wrangler AT
5. Yokohama Geolander

What do you want to do with the Gypsy? Tyre choice depends on that...

Doesnt matter. He has already zeroed in on AT's.

Go for the Yoko Geo's. Widely used by most people around here.

I've seen both Yokohama and BF in action on gypsies. I would suggest BF. Both are good off the road but BF are good on the road as well IMO.

The Geolander AT-S is good on road too. Don't forget these are self cleaning treads unlike BFG AT TA/KO. The advantage of BF over Yoko is the looks and tougher sidewall. I have Yokos on my Jeep and have done extensive on-road apart from offroad. BF all-terrain is not good in mud, so I have read.

I've seen gypsies do 130 odd on expressways and take corners at High speeds with BFs which guys with yokos were not confident about. Thus my suggestion. Poor mortals like us with jeeps cruise at 60-70 and we couldn't care less.

:eek: I thought it was the other way around...the Geolandars were better ON-road (read : ride comfort in the straights ) compared to the BFGs, no?

I use BFG's on my gypsy - for offroad, I would prefer these to geolandars any day.
BFGs are not that good for highway travelling I feel. Ride quality too, is slightly harsher than Geo's.
I've read the BFGs are not that good in mud/slush too.. Guess I'll find out soon enough!

If you have a lot of highway travelling in your day to day routine, then geo's get my vote over bfg's!
I travel in/around my house in bandra, once every 2 days! So I don't mind the BFGs..

I thought so too. But changed my opinion after sitting in Neville's gypsy on the way back from an OTR. He was ripping it on the expressway.

For me, i think only about grip levels. I really don't care about comfort or tire noise. Those BFs can grip!

I am searching really hard to find these 15" Off road steel drums. Please let me know if anyone has seen them for sale. I have attached a picture to give you a better view of what I am talking about.

Series - specialists in land rover, land rover series and range rover - gearbox, axle, transmission parts, spares and major units. These are also used on some Land Rovers.

Hmmm i have seen lot of gypsys and jeeps with geo's but few people mentioned that the side wall is kinda soft compared to BFGs . Purpose of AT tyres is mainly for OTRs , i don do much of tarmac driving unless for travelling to the OTR spot . What do you say about Continental cross contact ?

You mean if BFGs are not self cleaning then they tend to become slicks in slush right

I really don care about top speeds above 100kmph . 100 is actually very much enough for me for an OTR vehicle .

Actually i use my gypsy for about 20kms a week thats it so im not keen on tyres which are good for highway driving . My main purpose is OTR .
