Re: M&M Engines and Gearbox combos for JEEPs

Thanks a lot Spike. Won't call you Sir again

Few more:
1) Electric to manual conversion: Why is it not recommended? What can possibly go wrong? Am asking as I want to keep as little electronic dependency as possible.

2) Propeller shaft: Are shorter propeller shafts available for any other variant or does it require the old one to be cut to size (Am assuming that's a reliable thing to do)

3) Will the differential pumpkin orientation remain the same as the current setup? (towards the right when looking from the rear)

Cheers,
Adi

Basically the internal mechanisms are different, you can do some jugaad, Reliability will be doubtful then, hence not recommended.

You can shorten the existing long propeller shaft to a smaller size or use propeller shaft from Thar, which in most cases will be a direct fit (NGT 530 + Adapter plates + BW TC)

If you use BW TC you will need a left offset differential.

Spike

PS- I just realized today the pain and frustration you guys must be going through sourcing parts, when I saw these barely used Transmissions kept for scrap! Alas..

Comments on converting Armada Grand/ Bolero 4x4 from electric shift to manual using Thar (ie parts catalogue) parts please.

This is interesting, so what is arguably the less reliable mechanism (electronic) than the lever-style has lesser reliability when converted back to manual?? Surely need to know why. Wasn't the B/W offered with manual shift before the Thar also?

Anyone who knows about the Scorpios in B'lore who can comment about the reliability of the lever style?

I don't know if you are empathizing with us here or mocking us but actually turns out I didn't have such a tough time tracing the stuff.

Thanks Spike!

I personally don't see a point to this transplant. Doesn't achieve much in terms of power or torque. What engine is this? Which vehicle uses it? Going by the specs, even the D2 engine in the Xylo is a good choice but as its been launched recently finding one will be tough.

Cheers

this is from a MM CABKING TRUCK so i am confused about its type.

the cabking came with following three engines.
NEF 3600 NA DI
2609 cc
62 bhp
150 nm
lucas rotary FIP
EUV 3600 NA DI
2609 cc
62 bhp
150 nm
lucas rotary FIP
MDI 3200 B
2523 cc
53 bhp
162 nm
mico FIP
XD3P(72 BHP,155Nm of torque) not available in my locality.
XDP 4.90 (62 BHP,112Nm) want to replace.
MDI3200(Direct Injection,63BHP, 180Nm, which is an upgraded version of MDI3000/2350) priced at around 70 to 80 K in second hand market & not available.

the D2 engine is CRDE version & very expensive & not available.

PS: i am getting the Engine with starter, alternator (vaccum pump type) & GB at 37.5K

Re: M&M Engines and Gearbox combos for JEEPs

This engine is very similar to the Scorpio 2.6, except that it is normally aspirated. Its very large and heavy with the same dimensions as the Scorpio 2.6l. Not a good idea.

Why are they kept for scrap? What is the scrap price expected ?

Also, any pointers on a slicker GB than the NGT 530 for these engines?

Has anyone opened the GB to work on the leverages to make it better?

Inputs appreciated.

Some of these are removed from test vehicles, some are removed from new vehicles so that a prototype can be substituted. Some are never used at all. As inventory builds up they are sold.

Can range from a few hundreds to a few thousands, depends on the seller. But one thing is sure, these guys get stuff for a pittance (sometimes things are sold in terms of their weight)

You will see that soon

Yes, not just the GB (Synchros mainly) but the actuation mechanisms have also been worked around.

Spike

PS- Can you imagine a brand new original Ramsey 8000 lbs winch for 500 Rs? Alas..

Re: M&M Engines and Gearbox combos for JEEPs

spike,
you make our hearts have an attack, seeing the prices for which scrap is sold.

can you make something so these scraps are available to genuine wanters like us - jeepers, who search from hell to heaven, for nice items like the NGT GBs, BW TCs etc.,.

Best Regards.
