Re: M&M Engines and Gearbox combos for JEEPs

This is a good site to calculate speed at various engine rpms after a tire change.

Speed versus RPM calculator

Another good site to calculate engine rpm given various gearbox/final drive ratios/tire sizes.

Engine RPM Calculator

Tini , are you sure the T90 1st gear ration is 3.9?

Hi, Even better (as a reference post) would be an exploded view of each GB, with # of teeth mentioned for each cog.

BA10 Gearboxes and Color codes

On a recent BA10 gearbox hunting spree, I've seen at least three different colored badges /labels - Green / Black / Amber - curious what these color codes mean ?

My present thinking (and I stand to be corrected), is these are coded by application in the target vehicle ?
Thus, Green --> BA/10 --> would go into an Armada, Amber --> BA/10 --> would go into an early gen Scorpio

Has somebody else seen this?

Cheers

Re: BA10 Gearboxes and Color codes

@lugnut

I have always seen green badges, but never thought that there were other colors as well.

Re: M&M Engine and Gearbox combos for JEEPs

Hello,
While discussing engine options to put in my SUV, my friend claimed that engine (Gear drive, non CRDe with BA10) in initial Scorpio and mahindra pickup truck was same.
can someone please confirm, whether small mahindra pickup truck (IIRC CabKing) used the same engine with BA10 (IIRC NGT was not in the market at that time).
Reason for asking this question is - there is one readily available with one of our known ones in a very very good condition and i dont want to miss this opportunity.

Difference between XDP and XD3P engines

Hi,

I recently bought a MM 540 and am ecstatic about it,,love the engine note and responsiveness,,the mental acceleration specially from 60 kph to 100 kph is insane again coupled with that engine roar.
However I have never been that much a Mahindra fan which is to say I cannot rattle off engine and tech specs like I can do for TATA vehicles.

So what I want to know is basically their entire engine line up info ,,specifically the XDP and XD3P difference,,,what engines ( other than the hurricanes) did they use earlier. I have a Commander on site which has an INTERNATIONAL engine and its tractor roots are very evident with EVERYTHING low down in the rev band.

If there is any web page where all this is there please let me know ,else I guess I will have to ask the people in the know to let me know here.

Thanks ( and sorry for the trouble)

Re: M&M Engine and Gearbox combos for JEEPs

I have a question :

Can a BA10 or Mahindra clones (NGT530 / NGT 520) be mated to the T-18 single lever transfer case?
What would the resultant advantages/disadvantages of this be?

Thanks -

BA10 & NGT520 can be mated to T-18. Advantage is 5th gear.

BA10 + T-18 is what comes in the MM550 XDB

NGT520+T18 is what comes in the Bolero DI/Pick Up/Thar DI range.

BA10 is not a very robust gearbox. NGT520 is somewhat better than BA10. Other than that, I can't think of any

5 speed in a cj

One simple question.

How can we get a fifth cog in a cj?

The NGT series gearboxes are too long, shortening the rear prop shaft. Are there options out there that will let us use this setup?

Will a slip yoke eliminator help?

Confused.

Far from a simple task.

What are you looking for? More relaxed open-road cruising? If so, you could go for a taller final drive ratio. It will negatively affect offroading capability though.
