Reports are there, that Thar in Desert storm had a 2.2 Mhawk,as it had a hood scoop for horizontally mounted intercooler

Like Vinod mentioned NEF CRDE for now , they have to resort to a new engine eventually to comply with the BS 5 norms .

Intercooler placement does not indicate the engine. For example, on the other side, the super-XUV has the intercooler moved to behind the front bumper from top of the 2.2 engine.

From the link above, is this the car in question?

Yeah looks like it,but its a Bolero Dash with Scorpio's speedo console shoehorned into Bolero's console along with a Xylo/Quanto steering wheel and Scorpio's gear knob along with the wiper/indicator stalk. The hood scoop and the report say it might be running on 2.2 than 2.5
Any more pictures?

Hi Vinod
Is this NEF 2.5 Crde engine the same as what is likely in the new Xylos etc?
How good or otherwise is it in comparison to the 2.2 Scorpio Mhawk?

Re: Updated Mahindra Thar in 2-3 months. EDIT : Launched with Air-Con and immobilizer

yes !

quote from the article -

" The route was around 10 kms or so and took us more than 4 hours to traverse. We were in a Mahindra Thar, which ironically wasn’t powered by the 2.5-litre CRDe motor that does duty in the regular Thar. Instead our vehicle was powered by the Scorpio’s 2.2-litre mHawk engine which is more powerful than the regular Thar. The vehicle also featured the instrument cluster and steering wheel from the Scorpio. Inherently the biggest problem we faced with the mHawk powered Thar was clutch burn and we were told not to half clutch "

Thanks Vinod for ending it. Now my question to you is when is this Thar posted by 1100D above, launching. The refreshed interiors look slightly better as does the steering.

I've now finally decided to put my money down for the Thar but would like to have the refreshed version. I don't want to get the vehicle now with a new version out in a couple of months. So help me out. I'll give you a call tomorrow. Its been a long time coming and I finally want to have one of my own.

Also it seems that someone down south has made a copy of the Italian HT-

Has anyone looked at it in person? How good is the build quality. It seems pretty good from the pics.

1100 D,
Yes the Thar in pic has 2.2 M hawk. We built it for a special purpose but will not make it to production anytime soon. 2.5 NEF CRDe will continue to do its duty in THAR for now.

OK thanks for the confirmation Vinod. Every other thing being fine, carried over from other cars, including the engine. But there are two things that is catching the attention, given that the effort was taken for a one off vehicle

1> The bonnet/hood, looks like a finished product in production, not a makeshift scoop made out of the 540 bonnet. Had it been just to provide air to the intercooler, a simple cut-out in the bonnet, with or without a pre-refresh scorpio hood scoop would have sufficed. This Bonnet even has proper ridges on the side of the scoop like in a scorpio. I am not sure all this effort is for just one vehicle only.

2> The integration of Scorpio ip with Thar dash, that too is not a simple swap job.

Yes, that bonnet scoop has come out very well, thanks to the dedication of Thar team. Yes, all effort just to create one special Thar.

There is a general feeling among prototyping / development guys, that sometimes a prototype (often hand made with soft tooling) looks better than a production sample. Might sound strange and funny, but true.

Good observation there.

Re: Updated Mahindra Thar in 2-3 months. EDIT : Launched with Air-Con and immobilizer

So lets rephrase the question now.

Is there going to be any updated version of thar, like with better interiors, and same 2.5 NEF engine? in the coming few months?
