Samurai, any feedback from your cousin on his Gurkha? It would be nice if there are ownership feedbacks on the Gurkha, since there are not many Trax 4x4s (Judo/Gurkha etc) around.

Since he lives in UK, that is not possible right now. He drove it around for about 1000KMs in Jan08 during a short visit.

There's one on sale - check the classifieds. 4x4addict ordered a Gurkha but is buying a Pajero instead so his Gurkha is available for sale as brand new (unregistered) directly from Force.

Gurkha has been delivered to my friend Vikram Nakai in Patiala, Punjab, he has already shod it with Yokohama Geolandars and has done some moderate to extensive off roading with it. He is an ex Gypsy owner and have had plenty of experience in Scorpio and other Mahindra 4x4s as well as imported vehicles like Pajero etc. The Gurkha in his opinion tops them all in every sense from on road to off road comfort. The off road ability is unsurpassed in every sense.

As for long term, my Gurkha is nearing ten years and till date, after 112000km, all I have done is change the rubber parts and shockers, everything else is original and thats not bad for a 10 year old Gurkha which was never garaged. My Gurkha has seen rallies, off road events, some of them quite severe, floods, LEH, South, long trips in 48C desert of Rajasthan in sandy conditions and till date, the engine, suspension or the body bears no fatigue, a living testament to the hardiness of this vehicle.

On road price depends on the state you live. The ex-show room price is about 7.8 Lakhs for Hard Top with AC and PS. Soft top without AC is about 50,000 cheaper. The dealer will tell you the waiting period is about two months. The one i ordered reached the dealer only after four months.

My friend,this is unfair-because 'your ' website is actually nothing but a commercial advertisement of Force Motors,official or otherwise.The ad,anyhow,I must admit is remarkable and good.Though the Gurkha is a good offroader,the features you boast are nothing remarkable,for example the engine-it is nothing but an outdated IDI engine(offcourse Mercedes derived) and I know it is way back when compared with the perfomance of a DI ,from experience.
And please don't throw mud at Bolero without reason.The old Bolero's Peugeot is a smoky lump,but the MDI3200 in Bolero DI is a rugged and torquey engine ,far better than that of the Gurkha's IDI.It may not be too smooth but who is looking for car like smoothness in an offroader?At least the growl of the engine gives character to the JEEP.BHP don't count for an offroader but it is out and out torque that matters.And please remenber,Gurkha won't go at 130km/h however hard you may try.

My Gurkha touches 130kmph with ease and still has throttle travel left. German off road magazine which rated Gurkha as the best 4x4 of the year clocked Gurkha consistently at 135kmph which is no surprise given its tall fifth great and legendary OM616. The OM616 is much sought after and is considered to be the final word in diesel engine as far as reliability and engine life is concerned. Myriads of OM616/617 can be seen globally still surviving till today. Go to Benz World of Shop Forum and see how many still vouch for OM616 and 617 and declare it as the best diesel engine ever made period. Its an over-engineered wonder which is smooth enough for passenger car use and strong enough to haul load in commercial vehicles. As for off road ability, with unique one of a kind flexible tubular chassis, independent double wishbone torsion bar front suspension, semi floating rear, long travel suspension and double piece axle with divorced transfer case, its nothing short of formidable. The German magazine pitted everything it had and it performed all tasks admirably which made them admit that it was better than a Land Cruiser and even better in certain aspects to its German cousin namely the Gelande Wagen which has a live axle front. Lastly the rear diff is rated at industry standard 3.75tons and front at 1.8tons, goes to speak of the ruggedness and the life of this vehicle.

The website mentioned is Ramachandran's and what he says is in no way an advertisement. Rama like myself is a veteran of owning several off road vehicles from Land Cruiser to Chevy Silverado to a Mahindra Bolero, I have gone through Toyota 4 Runner as well as Jeep Wrangler in US and in India I have owned Mahindra Armada Grand which was a nightmare and a Safari 4x4 which was another sad experience. We both speak from our personal experience which may not appeal to all.

Oh boy never knew we had a very well driven Trax Gurkha over here near Kolkata. Are you doing any offroading over here? Do hope to have look at the Gurkha. Gurkha was and will be the ultimate 4wd for years to come.

Sounds impressive. Is the Judo, just a 4 door version of Gurkha. How much does these cost? I have heard one has to order it specifically. what are you comments on vibration, gear box/lever etc
