I have this in my pajero:

It's a small holder. I need the slot for the switch for future use.

I have the same pillar pocket in the jeep. Can't use in the pajero due to pillar design:

Thanks Santi. Your vehicle is an inspiration too! You must start a thread.

Done approx 6500kms after tyre change and alignment. Car was pulling slightly to the right.

Got the tyres rotated according to the following protocol:

And alignment. Now she runs proper. Alignment done at Premji's at Mahim, Mumbai. Highly recommended only for alignment services:

Re: Mitsubishi Pajero SFX - Project Overland Conversion

A few of us were chatting on TPMS and pros and cons of using Chinese equipment and external sensors. Jotting the discussion here for everyone's benefit:

The TPMS of mine is currently on cig lighter adapter but will be hardwired.

I bought my TPMS system in November 2015 during an aliexpress annual sale and fitted it on the new tyres in December 2015. Till date i have had no issues.

My observations till date:

- No effect on balancing of the tyres. Sensors fitted after balancing and not while balancing.

- The theft proof nuts at the back really work. Not had an issue of them falling off or getting loose

- I usually am very skeptical of Chinese products. After fitment, i've checked air for the first few months every month (on cold tyres) and the readings exactly match with the sensor. After that have been checking alternate months and still they match.

- I've stopped filling air at petrol pumps and use my portable Bushranger pump to fill air on cold tyres around 1030am.

- Never felt it a big hassle to remove the sensors. And it's easy to remove them

- When my tyres are due for rotation, i remove the sensors and fit them in the pattern i need for rotation just before i visit the tyre shop. It's now easy to figure out which tyres goes where and there is a lesser chance of a mistake by the tyre shop guys.

- Over the past 10 months, i've just lost about a single psi of air. Not bad at all.

- For three reasons i did not want internal sensors:
While offroading, if we reduce the air pressure more, i'm scared of damage to the sensor when tyre folds over a rock
If the sensor fails or to replace battery, you have to unmount the tyre
Heard some internal sensors are not "slime" or balancing bead compatible. Plan to try out either of these soon

There are two others in my group using Tyredog TPMS (external sensors). They too haven't faced any issue till date.

As mentioned earlier, my front two sensors battery died and i needed to get new cells. For this i had removed the sensors from the tyres and put regular valve caps. To fit the valve caps, one has to also remove the security nuts. So i removed them and kept them very safely and by the time i got the batteries and installed them, i could not find these nuts. Im sure i'll bump into them sometime in the future.

Thankfully, there is specialised Nuts and Bolts store in Lamington Road, Mumbai called American Nuts and Bolts. They had the exact size. Bought for the two sensors plus two extra. Each costed Rs. 30/-

@Tejas@perioimpl.
Fantastic Thread. Was looking since a while for someone who could write a post on these lines, and you nailed it. I own a 2003 GLX CBU which has done over 2.3 lac km, and was also looking for a similar set of mods for the same purpose. Please have a look at my garage and see what my Gangsta has on board, and would love to have some valuable suggestions on the lines you modded your own vehicle.
Would love to have full details of availability, pricing and specs about the wheels and front bumper in particular. As you have already mentioned the inquiry details and the links, will refer your name when I get in touch with the dealer.
Have you explored an option to install a Cruise Control in your vehicle? There is an option im sure. Please enlighten me if any!
Thanks and well done.

Dear Tejas,

First let me compliment you on a very seriously superb writeup.

Regarding your Konkan visit, if I am not wrong this is Velas - famous for the Turtle Festival. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Dear Tejas,

Why did you buy two extra nuts when you had two lying about? I would have done the same! However, from past experience, either you never require the spares or you never find them when you need them!! Just my two bits.

Thanks. Will check your garage.

Doubt cruise control can be fit in a vehicle without an Engine Management system.

Thank you.

Nope, this is not during the fest. This was at a private beach property of a friend.

As i said, i had taken the two nuts off and put them in a safe place but couldn't find them. Therefore bought two to replace the missing ones and two extras which are now securely put in the car along with the nut opening key of the TPMS.

Re: Mitsubishi Pajero SFX - Project Overland Conversion

Weekend DIY - Ambient / footwell lighting.

Why?

Pajero has poor interior lighting. One way to overcome it is to change bulbs to brighter LEDs. However, that would not change the reach nor overcome shadows of seats. Thus the need for mild LED lights in the floor well to be user switchable in case one drops something and independent of the regular interior lights.

I had left over 12V Led strips at home and thought i would use them. Since i didn't want bright lights, incase they need to be on while driving, i wanted the lowest possible intensity. These lights can be cut into strips with a minimum of 3 LEDs each and that what i did.

Mitsubishi Pajero SFX - Project Overland Conversion-img_7240.jpg

This is the proposed wiring diagram:

Mitsubishi Pajero SFX - Project Overland Conversion-wiring-diagram.jpg

Had an option to ground each LED light at a nearby bolt but decided that would be a pain to do and was easier to run all wires together.

The LEDs need to be connected to the wire by either soldering (as shown in the previous pic) or via a attachment. I chose the latter and bought the connectors of Amazon India:

http://www.amazon.in/dp/B01I32T8V8/r...698841_3p_dp_1

Mitsubishi Pajero SFX - Project Overland Conversion-1-led-strip-connectors.jpg

Had some 14AWG wire lying at home and decided to use that. Ideally would have preferred to use red and black wire instead of white but since i had a lot of this wire decided to go ahead with this. Put black insulation tape loops at intervals to indicate the negative wire.

Mitsubishi Pajero SFX - Project Overland Conversion-2-wire-14awg.jpg

Connected the LEDs to the connector. Easy snap fit. Plus the LEDs come with its own 3M tape. So you peel of a bit before connecting and get a double secure attachment to the connector. Glue + the spring connector.

Mitsubishi Pajero SFX - Project Overland Conversion-3-connection-strip.jpg

Mitsubishi Pajero SFX - Project Overland Conversion-9-peel-stock-3m-tape.jpg

Make sure you don't mix up the positive and negative terminals.

Next the wires were connected to the connector using heat shrink using a hot air gun:

Mitsubishi Pajero SFX - Project Overland Conversion-4-heat-shrunk.jpg

Mitsubishi Pajero SFX - Project Overland Conversion-5-heat-gun.jpg

Double secured the wires by insulation tape:

Mitsubishi Pajero SFX - Project Overland Conversion-6-insulated.jpg

One long wire would run from the fuse till one LED strip on the left rear passenger footwell. The others would be tapped into using a wire tap.

Wire tap bought from here:

Mitsubishi Pajero SFX - Project Overland Conversion-7-wire-tap.jpg

Mitsubishi Pajero SFX - Project Overland Conversion-8-wire-tap.jpg

Once the entire loom was connected, i used better 3M tape to secure this to the final positions. Additionally added thin zip ties as precaution.

Mitsubishi Pajero SFX - Project Overland Conversion-10-stronger-3m-tape-attach.jpg

These are average quality pics from the phone camera. Looks brighter in the pics than it actually is.

Mitsubishi Pajero SFX - Project Overland Conversion-11-front-foot-well.jpg

Dirty foot mat thanks to the rain and wet footwear!

Mitsubishi Pajero SFX - Project Overland Conversion-12-rear-foot-well.jpg

This was just a test connection.

I have a rocker panel coming up with multiple switches. Final wiring once all switches arrive from aliexpress.

Thanks to Rehaan, a4anurag, tsk1979, sgiitk, for all the guidance to my electrical queries.

Re: Mitsubishi Pajero SFX - Project Overland Conversion

This afternoon, the post man delivered a parcel to the clinic.

Was very excited what could this parcel from China be?

I keep alternating deliveries between home and office else if the missus found out the number of parcels arriving, i would be a dead duck!

And thank god she isn't not team-bhp!

So, excitedly opened it up and it's my spare tyre TPMS sensor:

Mitsubishi Pajero SFX - Project Overland Conversion-1-parcel.jpg

Already mentioned the link in a previous post.

When i got down to head home, i thought i'll pair it. Doesn't take more than two minutes to pair it.

Read the manual, and put the unit in pairing mode and selected the spare tyre:

Mitsubishi Pajero SFX - Project Overland Conversion-2.-pairing.jpg

Attached the sensor to the tyre:

Mitsubishi Pajero SFX - Project Overland Conversion-4-attached-sensor.jpg

Immediately got a long beep indicating that the sensor paired and the tyre pressure was displayed:

Mitsubishi Pajero SFX - Project Overland Conversion-3-connected.jpg

I normally keep my spare tyre pressure a bit high (my dad always told me to do so, saying we usually don't check spare tyre pressure that often so keep it high to compensate for gradual drop in pressure). When i did my tyre rotation a few days ago, i had kept it at 33 and was happy to note that the sensor displayed the correct pressure.

Now that i have the sensor, i dropped the pressure back to 30.

Once the pressure was correctly displayed, i tightened the sensor with the anti theft nut using the supplied key and am good to go.

Mitsubishi Pajero SFX - Project Overland Conversion-5-tigthening.jpg

The unit alternately displays four tyres and the spare alternately every few seconds.

Re: Mitsubishi Pajero SFX - Project Overland Conversion

Hi Tejas, Congratulations on the upgrades and modifications carried out to your Pajero SFX.
I have followed your thread keenly and thanks to you have been able to find a good quality Winch Bumper through Amin Sons.

As you may be aware by now we are in the same boat as my Fortuner, Obelix is also undergoing some major modificatons and upgrades as i write this.

Must say your Pajero looks very tasteful and handsome in its current avatar. Looking forward to seeing any future upgrades also.

The Pajero Sfx comes with a very good suspension set up as OEM. I prefer it to my Stock Fortuner suspension. But incase you ever want to upgrade it further considering the weight of the Winch and rooftop accessories you can goin for Ironman. They have an option for upgrading the suspension without the lift also i think.

In the meantime..keep on trucking brother!!

Thanks. Was a pleasure speaking to you over the phone.

On an unrelated note to this thread, wanted to share something that i recently purchased for the rains and is a great lifesaver: a reverse opening/closing umbrella.

This umbrella folds inwards and traps the water inside and prevents it dripping in the vehicle.

Had seen it a year ago when it was priced about Rs.1600/- and recently a few months ago it was on sale at Snapdeal for Rs.599/- when i bought it.

Images from the Snapdeal website:

Mitsubishi Pajero SFX - Project Overland Conversion-delbertodoublelayerreversableumbrellasdl374585412471cbb.jpg

Mitsubishi Pajero SFX - Project Overland Conversion-delbertopinknylonumbrellasdl4661552325a2116.jpg

After buying one for trial, have purchased three more for all vehicles.

They've increased prices again as i see - currently at Rs799/-.

Here's the link:

https://www.snapdeal.com/product/del...160922053852:s

NOTE: i have no commercial interest with this company or seller to promote it.

The umbrella needs to stand upright so the water doesn't drip so i opened the top screw and looped a wire so that i can be assured that it doesn't fall. I hope i don't become a lightning conductor because of the copper wire . Need to find a better solution to this.

Mitsubishi Pajero SFX - Project Overland Conversion-img_7485.jpg

Mitsubishi Pajero SFX - Project Overland Conversion-img_7484.jpg

About the umbrella:

I usually use the extra large storm umbrellas sold by decathlon which are huge and can really stand upto wind. This umbrella won't. It's not extra large nor is it windproof, but the reverse closing mechanism helps to correct it easily if it folds backwards in wind.

Then why did i buy this umbrella?

While offroading and touring, i'll still use my storm umbrella and put it in a plastic bag in the car. BUT, in everyday use, it's a chore!

There have been times that i've gotten a wee bit wet just to avoid putting a wet umbrella in the car. This is where this one shines. Now i have no qualms of using one because i'm assured my car is dry.

The other biggest advantage is that you can crack open your door a bit to open the umbrella and also close it with the door very slightly open once you are seated. You can't do this with a regular umbrella and your door and switches all get wet.

So i recommend this one for the short trips from the car parking to office/home/shop/etc and back to the car.

A new video pops up in my inbox from 4xOverLand. Thought of sharing this here, since I feel it gels with this thread and conversion project of Tejas's Pajero
(though suitable for pickups too!, V-Cross owners! )

Had to remove Pillar Pockets as the color of pillars is soft grey whereas pockets are of beige shade. Planning to wrap the pockets in Black Carbon Fiber sheet & refit them.
