I had a chance to have a closer look at the vehicle but i was not allowed to click photos of it,its a total scorpio in mm550 cloathing. The guy i met told me that the engine is smooth and also has good top speed. It has a 5 speed gear box with a borg warner transfer case and its also cmg with rear disc brakes.

I hope it makes it to Europe, I will probably get my hands on it.
As seen on the photos, this one is a RHD so it may first appear in India.

Where was this caught?
Samurai, this vehicle was caught on the Mumbai - Pune expressway. Though this is not my scoop, I have been lucky enough to catch a Mahindra Scorpio LHD Pick Up and a LHD Scorpio on the highway couple of times. Next time, I will make it a point to take pics.

I think so, after all, this is the pride of kaka's garage.

Thanks for posting the link Cyrus, though I could have posted it here, but was skeptical about posting an external link on Team-BHP.

+1. Definately pricing will be high. Really wish they have atleast one low end model at around 5 - 6. Sigh!!

I guess any publicity is good publicity for Behram Sir & Mahindra

Sir, can you confirm the scoop, am sure many are waiting for this vehicle. I am keenly keeping a "silent" eye on your other thread on the "supposed" surprise vehicle that you have.

@Behram Sir: Hope this Jeep will be launched here soon.

It would be a dream for me to buy this vehicle in remembrance of the 1989 MM540 we sold long back

Finally!! we can buy the '540'. getting impatient , i was all set to build my own 'thar'. I've already bought a scorpio chassis and was waiting for a scorpio engine. Now , I guess I'll wait.

this answer from Behram Sir is indicative enough to authenticate the vehicle seen in the photos.

Great find for TBHP sabareesh and good work capt.kirk of autocar

Road presence is great from the first picture
Tyres are broad so it looks great
Demand for wheel arches have been met. Thats a good one
Speeds of 140 means atleast this one can go on the highway
The brake lights of MM540 is a good initaive as it looks classic
Looks like some parts are borrowed from Bolero like the footboards.
Presence of a roll cage is a good one for not going for after markets.

Pleas provide an option for a hard top like Wrangler mahindra. Please

Behram sir,
You are wicked. Now i doubt if you were the person who was driving it

On the whole a great looking product. Looks not that bad in black and no weld spots visible atleast in photos.

Things i liked-
  • Looks like MM540 with no changes what so ever externally
  • Minimal styling, hope stickers will not be added on production model
  • Uses Bolero 2wd rear suspension loads of articulation.
Things i didnt like-
  • Running board Why sir why?
  • Why no fully floating axle? Will Scorpio's semi floating take all what we do?
I missed a vehicle like Thar yesterday. Was a pain to drive my jeep to the OTR spot and back 250 kms + on a single day and mind you my MM540 is one of the best mechanically. No regrets of pocessing it on OTR spot but regret to drive it to and back from OTR scene.

Mahindra bring it on soon to India

Now imagine the same in a doorless CJ340 on horrible Karnataka roads, that should give some idea what I go through.

If the Muggles (non-4x4 folks) see this scoop photograph, they would think we are all crazy to wait for this Jeep like it is the second coming. Our troubles are not really over even if Thar becomes available. Then we have to get custom cabin, A/C, rear seating, etc., to realise the dream of family friendly offroader. How many of us can buy 6L-7L vehicle only for offroading?

And perhaps have concealed door hinges.

Valid question samurai. Barring power steering, lighter controls and better NVH this vehicle has no other creature comforts. Can be a second vehicle. I think most of us will streatch and buy this one. Once this thing is out on road and some politicians, pimp my ride boys will buy including few pure off road loving guys who can affoard it. Atleast we will have some affordable option with us that can deliver things off road.

Mahindra don't screw this up like you'll did with the Classic by pricing it too high.
