Re: Willys CJ3B LHD Petrol - Gift for Life! – A true story

This is the first post in the lines of restoration of the CJ3B body, electrical and few cosmetics. The I would call the current state as phase one which is identification of all the necessary tasks and planning for procurement of few parts which are missing.

The following picture will give an idea of the jeep in its current state, however what you see on these pictures are only the body condition. The drive terrain of this jeep is perfectly good and engine cranks super quick.

The original Lucas cutout in good order, please pardon me for the poor picture quality as these pictures were taken with tiny mobile camera in low light condition.

Body is busted, may need a nearly new overhaul. I see the hand brake cable in place..!! Neat. Looks like there is only 1 way to bring this jeep back to life, and it is surely not a 1-by-1 approach - needs a COMPLETE strip/rebuild.

PS - I found a new tinker in krishnagiri, let me know if interested - may workout less expensive than chennai or even hosur...!!!

Hey Santhosh,

We are striping the Body off from the Jeep in Kancheepuram, The Jeep is already set his foot in Kancheepuram only for this purpose. Thanks for the Krishnagiri offer however we(Me, Dr.Jones and Logesh) are doing this jeep under our supervision in Kancheepuram.

I have almost collected all the required body parts that are missing in this jeep and it will be installed in no time as and when the body tub is getting fixed.

Some of the modification I'm looking at in this CJ3B are:

1. Free Wheeling Hubs (already procured)
2. Scissor top (though this vehicle is a civilian one, I wanted to have the scissor top design)

Missing stuffs which will be installed during the restoration:

1. right side mounted spare wheel bracket (already procured)
2. Windshield with push out glass frame (already procured)
3. 4x4 gear levers and front propeller shaft (already procured)
4. Emergency brake cable (already procured)
5. Battery (already procured)
6. 7.00x16 NDMS tyres (already procured)
7. Original left hand drive bench seats (Looking out for the same)
8. Windshield wiper motors (already procured)
9. Horns (will procure it when electrical work is been carried out)
10. Lights and electricals (will procure it when electrical work is been carried out)

Can you tell me how these looked like? I am also working on my 1966 model CJ3B LHD, so would like to know how the bench seats were originally.

Also regarding the FWH, will the same sets for Bolero/Scorpio fit the 3B or there is any specific type?

The left hand drive bench seat is in this picture, however this Jeep is converted to right hand drive.

You can use the FWH from MM550/Classic, this is available at Lamda factory at Electronic city in Bangalore or in any Mahindra dealers.

Nope, What is there in your Jeep is a Right Hand Drive jeep's bench seat. Like the above post where a RHD jeep with LHD jeep's bench seat, your jeep got RHD jeep's bench seat.

The smaller portion should be the driver's seat.

Hmmm, got it. But in my jeep the smaller portion can be flipped down to give access to the back. So if it is on the drivers side would it not hamper that movement due to the steering?

Siva - The passenger side seat is the one that should be folding, isn't it? the "40" portion? (Just confirming)

Yes, I also think so. And it is the case with my jeep. I had seen another 3B lying around in the scrapyard from where I picked up mine and the seat was same., i.e, 60 portion is on the drivers side with the 40 portion passenger side folding. But

So, now there is confusion. The 40 portion should be on the passenger side or drivers side? I feel its the former, but experts your views?
