Re: Willys CJ3B LHD Petrol - Gift for Life! – A true story

I picked a picture from the CJ3B Page and it does show 40 side seat on the passenger side.

Jeep gurus - Please advise us.

Thanks,
Shub

I think passenger side needs to flipped down, for easy ingress through that side to the rear. Driver side has steering which will obstruct the movement of passengers. Just an observation from my jeep not a guru

So, now there is confusion. The 40 portion should be on the passenger side or drivers side? I feel its the former, but experts your views?

Hmmm then it should me my mistake, may be I didn't realize that before. I could see the logic in having the passenger side flipping down to create way for the rear bench seat access.

But what I didn't get yet is, when did this bench seats introduced? Is it only for Indian sub continent or for the world ? Because all the US listed Willys Jeeps have got individual seats.

Re: Willys CJ3B LHD Petrol - Gift for Life! – A true story

The bench seats, logically speaking should be specific to Indian conditions where folks tend to occupy every inch of available cabin space. If you notice the older scooters/bikes - they did come with separate seating - two wheeler - two people. But people managed 4 (hubby/wife - 1 kid between them. 1 kid standing between the rider and the handle bar). and then the two wheelers started making longer seats so people could add more kids to the ride.

Old cars - No bucket seats. Just benches. Ambys could so carry 13 people in the cabin.

So just my thoughts - i may not be right as far as the bench seating in the Jeeps are concerned.

Am still waiting for the gurus to respond.

Siva sir -- Any update on the tailgate hinges that we talked about a few weeks ago?

Regards,
Shub

Yeah, I remember the tailgate hinges very much. Since there are more CJ3B restorations I wanted to give you and Karumbaiah each one(not the pair) this week.

Yes sir, I need one and Karumbaiah needs one. So you can send the pair to either one of us and we will share it accordingly. Will wait up for your call.

Thank you so much.

Talking of 3B tailgate hinges, my jeep also needs a pair. What I have done is asked for gypsy hinges to be fitted. Though originality to a small extent will be lost, I am not finding the original flip down type hinges where the rod goes through them. (Previous owners had converted the flip down tail gate to a swing open one) Can you tell me any other type that is similar and easily available?

The advantage of flipdown tailgate that came in the original CJ3Bs, you could remove the tailgate to accommodate additional space. If you want to have an option for flipdown without removal of the tailgate itself, then there are plenty of option.

Look at my trailer's hinges which was taken from Standard 20 van. The gate will be attached to the body in all the time and it will enable the flip down option but this is not going to be originally made for Jeep. Think of welding work etc.

Well, lets see if my garage can fashion out something by welding. Otherwise am going for the flip down with gypsy hinges. (It'll make it permanently fixed though)

Re: Willys CJ3B LHD Petrol - Gift for Life! – A true story

Guys,

The Jeep restoration is landed in a set back as I've moved to New Jersey. Ah I don't want my restoration to stop wherever I stay so decided to collect unique parts for the CJ3B, now I leave it you to guess apart from the items listed below(purchase done, need to find a way to send/bring it to India) what are all in my wishlist.
  • Koenig 51 model PTO gearbox
  • Koenig King 100 model Winch
  • PTO gear bot to winch drive shaft
The three items together form a complete working PTO winch setup in the CJ3B. If you know Koenig has got single stick, double stick with single or double side operated PTO gearboxes. The one I have is a front only output with single stick model. This one is 1960s produced one and removed from a CJ5.
