You get cycling specific socks abroad called seal skins. These tall knee high ones are probably for motorcycle touring I guess. The Velominati would go to war at their length if any serious road cyclist were to wear these. We do have a few here too who wear those kee high compression socks, and boy do they look ridiculous! Do you get them in the standard size just below the calves as well?

Lachlan Morton famously cycled the Alt Tour a few weeks ago in a ridiculous number of days wearing similar Birkenstock's when he too started developing problems with his cycling shoes. Admittedly his problems were knee and not soft feet related. But these sandals are super comfortable to ride in on flats, and as he proved the speed on flat terrain is the same as clipless, and he shifted back to clipless only when he hit the high mountains.

We've had seal skins for some time now, including Gore Tex, but eventually your feet get "cooked" and the skin gets shrivelled, prune skinned, and eventually you start developing sores. An exposed quick drying foot helps. And a wet shoe is a wet shoe. It stinks real bad! Though you have a solution for that as well in rain covers I guess.

The sandals were lying around. They work. And they dry instantly. For my hybrid rain riding on platform pedals, they're perfect for now.

Re: Post pictures of your Bicycle on day trips here!

Last month we (a group of 8 friends) did a 102 km round trip of Hadshi-Pavna dam-Urse. It was a memorable ride. Sharing some pics below.

Here is a small contribution from my end to the thread... Restarted biking recently... Putting my 2 years old Firefox MTB to good use.

Re: Post pictures of your Bicycle on day trips here!

Missed the morning century today as it was raining hard and I could not bolster the motivation to get ready and go out in that. So a quick dive back under the sheets it was for some much needed soaking of the body in sleepy goodness.

Felt guilty throughout the day, watching the Olympics, and bike chain freshly Squirted and waiting. Since it had dried off nicely outside left for a 70 km shorty to the old highway, Somatane kicker, and back.

As luck would have it, the last 40 km were again in pouring rain so I have no idea how the chain is going to be on the ride tomorrow. We shall see!

Here's the soaked bike at the Gurudwara at the start of the new Dehu Road flyover on the return.

Am getting more efficient at washing down the bike post these rain rides. Timed myself at just under 8 minutes today. Lol

Re: Post pictures of your Bicycle on day trips here!

I have been exploring the hills, abandoned overgrown trails and mofussil, quaint villages tucked into the hillside. Went up to Mussoorie a few times, exploring different trails, even barrelling down the old trekking trail/ bridle path once (brakes became super heated though)!

My trusty partner in crime in all this has been my bicycle.

Here is a picture from one such memorable jaunt.

Cheers !

A year old but relevant pics of my cycle around waterbodies within a radius of 50 kms from Mumbai (city). Details of location etc on my thread if anyone's interested in heading out this monsoon to any of these locations!

Love red Dales!

Were you experimenting with saddle tilt in the second photo?

Don't remember exactly but I was experimenting with the height of the saddle sometime during that period so maybe for that ride the saddle was tilted a bit.

Re: Post pictures of your Bicycle on day trips here!

Did not have the heart to take my road bike out last week because of the rains. Went on a 3 hour ride on my bomb-proof single speed instead. Clocked lesser KMs but enjoyed it nonetheless.

I really like this older version of the My Bike much better than the newer ones with the straight forks.

These curved tapered forks look so much better, and really soften as well as liven up the ride.

Yup, it also has eyelets for fenders. Once upon a time, both the mybike and Kemmel (mybike 7 speed) used to come with quick-release for the front. They did away with it by the time I purchased the bike (2014 model).

I've never seen any cyclist selling his MyBike. Or even the original black Rockrider 300 with which it shares a frame (I think). I briefly toyed with the idea of buying the Rockrider 300 for its brilliant lightweight steel frame, but sadly that bike (as the MyBike) is a tad too small/crowded for a big 6 foot guy.

Re: Post pictures of your Bicycle on day trips here!

The last 6 months have seen little to no use of my cycle. First is laziness and the second is weather, as we moved into Winter. I can't take the cold very well.

I will share some memories from trips I have done in the past and within the last 2 years.

This was from the Remutaka Rail trail. I have a fascination for trains and this cycle track is basically an old railway alignment converted to one. I did the trip with my son and then another was done solo. Its a total 18km distance with the last 6 to 7km being a 1:40 (or less) descent. It gets fun going down hill. Less so heading back as it is a long steep climb. Puzzles me no end how the old steam engines did this climb. It took me a good 5 hours to finish this but I was not on any time mission. I took all the time in the world as this was to be with nature and nothing else, as is the case with all the cycle trips I do.

This trip was from the Grey Town Rail trial. An easy ride, all on level land. Once again, to visit an old railway station called Woodside, which is very much in use. I ended the day by staying at an olive tree plantation.

This one was a Seatoun (Where we live) to Petone trip. About 22km. Easy ride. Beautiful view in the end.

Finally, a local trip with my son. Just around the bay area of Wellington. Its just so pretty. You can't get enough of it on a good day.
