With regards to extended warranty, what is the difference between a manufacturer-backed warranty and one offered by the dealer?

Hi guys,
Any idea about the extended warranty for the Swift Zxi ? Dealer says 6k for 3rd year alone. I think thats quite steep.

Swift already comes with 3rd year extended warranty I suppose, and its cost is already included in the ex-showroom price that dealer quotes!!
My VDi came with the one!!

Nope, he probably clubbed it into your deal. @ Fountainheader : Take coverage for a total of 4 years. The annual rate will be more reasonable then.

Thanked: Once

I had read GTO's post ( dated may be a year back) a couple of months ago.
Then after reading all the posts on team-bhp i bought my maruti zen estillo in dec 08.
I ensured that i take the extended warranty, demanded it and got it.
I paid Rs:-4595 for for 3rd and 4th year warranty, on the purchase date itself.
Peace of mind for 80,000 kms or 4 years whichever comes first.

I believe the dealer is trying to sell you his extended warranty plan and not the manufacturer's warranty.
For e.g. when I bought my Dzire VDI a month back, the salesperson told me that the 2 yrs additional warranty would cost me 12K. I was a little surprised and when checked noticed that he was trying to sell me the dealer's warranty. I demanded to know about MUL's extended warranty which was only 5K for 2 additional years. The guy was trying to sell his warranty claiming it was superior, etc but I went with MUL's warranty primarily bcos in that you can have repairs done at any dealer.
When we go for dealer's warranty, most of the times the work has to be done at their shop only.

My $0.02. Hope this helps.

There are a lot of factors. For e.g. with MUL, the additional two years of warranty is for 40K Kms only or additional 2 yrs whichever comes first i.e. in the third year if you cross the 80K mark, the warranty will end. Some dealers in Mumbai give the third and fourth year extended warranty with unlimited miles. But the caveat is that the cars should be serviced in their workshop only for any repairs during those years and they are expensive too. MUL's two years extended warranty for a Dzire VDI was 5K for 2yrs whereas the dealer's one was 12k but they had unlimited miles coverage.
BTW dealers do give a 5th year warranty which I believe the manufacturer doesnt provide.
Another thing is that if you have manufacturer's warranty, you can get your car repaired at any of their dealers.

60 Days ???

I think the extended warranty pack is cheaper if you buy it with a brand new car and the price goes on increasing with time till those 60 days.

Glad I could help. Enjoy your new ride.
Drive safe and do post some pics when you receive your car.

Cheers

Cross checked with the dealer. Its 4995 for 3rd and 4th years. Can opt for that on the 60th day from the date of delivery too. Looks like a "peace of mind" package

I got the third year extended warranty for my Fiesta. Is it a better idea to get the fpourth year warranty as well with in the first few months or is it ok to wait till the end of the third year to get it.
Third year extended cost some Rs.53xx third and fourth was Rs. 97xx
