Wildon - Buying a new Bimmer, need help with the VIN decoding.

VIN is WBA5C37020D351955.

One website shows it as a 2013 manufacture (www.bmwarchive.org) while another one (www.bmwvin.com) shows it as 2014. Confused.

You're reading out the 17 digit VIN posted on the window sticker. The correct VIN (19 digits) is stamped below the front drivers seat. Post it here and we'll help you decode it.

I have tried some options and I agree that the confusion prevails , I have also tried some sources on the internet to identify the actual character which defines the year , however not of much help.

I got to know that the car is 520 D.

The best possible option available for us now is to check the Form 22 from the dealer.

Hi Gaurav, please check your VIN number again. Ideally there should be an alphabet at the position no 10 in the VIN. In your case its 0(zero) which does not look right. Unless I am highly mistaken, your 2014 VIN number should be MBJ11JV40E7501049. That is instead of 0, there should be alphabet E.
Then the VIN number makes sense in following way:

Manufacturer: Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt Ltd
Manufacturer address: Plot No 1 Bidadi Industrial Area
Ramanagar Taluk
Bangalore KA 562109
Product type: Passenge Car and Utility Vehicle
Make: Not known
Check digit: 0
Model year: 2014

Please note: I am assuming that Toyota still follows the same alphabet code, as it does in North America, when I say that E represents 2014.

You are right, maybe the VIN information in the article is outdated and that is why it says 22 digits rather than 17. However, the 10th character should be an alphabet by North American standards.

Also friends, decoding the VIN number is no longer an art. There are a number of online resources available already.
