Re: What ICE & @ What Price

1.Car: VW Vento

2. What is your existing setup?
Head unit : JVC 90BT
Front speakers : Blaupunkt 5 1/4" Velocity components
Rear speakers : Focal 6" coaxials
Amplifier : Blaupunkt GTA 450
Wiring: No idea- some good stuff
Sub: Morel Ultimo 12" in custom enclosure in boot

3. How much did it cost?
HU: 14K
Front speakers : Hand me down (free)
Rear speakers : Around 6K
Amp : Hand me down (free)
Woofer: Around 10K +8K for the enclosure
Wiring/misc:7.5K
Total outlay inclusive of discounts: around 36K
Total value of installed system: 70K+ (including price of hand me downs)

5. How serious were you about your system?
Truly. Serious. I almost exclusively listen to music only in the car. Vento has a crappy HU to start with and the stock speakers didn't offer much for a connoisseur.

6. What kind of music do you listen to?
Rock, metal, prog- lots of blazing guitars, groovy basslines and complex drums. Also acoustic/melodic/doom that requires clear, tight bass (no boom-boom), well-articulated mids and highs.

7. Would you recommend it to others?
Absolutely. But don't get this if you are into dance, trance, techno or any of that stuff. You will be disappointed.
This stuff came reccoed by Navin and B&T, btw (installed by the latter). Can't get better than this.

8. Future Upgrades
Nothing at all. Am happy with this. It has bluetooth, USB in, i-pod in, virtually any phone in (via USB). I have an AUX in that I haven' even used yet (cable is not connected)- trust me I don't miss it. The front stage is perfect, the woofer makes me happy and the fact that it isn't as bright as a typical system is only growing on me more and more.

Just got JBL MS-A5001 mono-block amplifier, will get it installed in boot with JBL MS-A1004 so that MS-A1004 and MS-A5001 are side to side and they would definitely look cool too .
Pioneer AVH-4000nex with Apple's Carplay is on the line up, hoping that Carplay will work in India.

Re: What ICE & @ What Price

Finally got the ICE upgraded after four years.

Car: Fiat Punto MJD Emotion
Front components : JBL CS-6C, 4000/-
Rear coaxials: Blaupunkt GTx 542 SC, 2000/-

Sounds better than stock which is a terrible benchmark to be honest. HU is the now discontinued JBL GTX 555, planning to change that with the non cd Blaupunkt Tokyo 110, the shop is quoting 3500/- its available online at 2600/-. Work done at Auto Shop Koramangala.

Re: What ICE & @ What Price

vigsom (a TBHP) member has been kind enough to point me in the right direction towards an audio (HU+dash kit) for my Corolla H4 2007.

Can someone please also point me to a good and reputed dealer/installer in Delhi/NOIDA. Gurgaon is also fine but too far away for me (I stay in East Delhi). Pandit bros was supposed to be very good. I know of Elegant in Lajpat Nagar but I last went to him in 2007-08. The point is not only to get a HU+ speakers (depending on budget) but also a dash kit which will basically make the new fitment aesthetically acceptable. The car does have an OEM fitment.

Amplifier: DLS X-Program XA-40 four channel amplifier.

3. How much did it cost ?
Clarion CZ703A: Rs 16,500/-
PHD MF 6.2 Kit: Rs 18,850/-
PHD FB 6 midbass: Rs 3850/-
JBL GTO 804: Rs 4850/-
DLS X-Program XA-40: Rs 9500/-

Wiring + Spacers + Installation Charges (Powerzone, Chennai): ~ Rs 4,200/-
RC Wiring + Installation Charges (Evo, Bangalore): ~ Rs 2,500/-

Total: ~ Rs 66,500/-

4. How serious were your about your system?
Serious. The stock system in the car was pathetic, as most Punto owners would agree. Upgraded the system with the stock headunit and survived with that for three years since the Microsoft Blue&Me system was rather advanced. Once that conked off and FIAT rejected extended warranty for the item, an upgrade to a better HU was inevitable.

We do a lot of highway drives and music play

5. Which kind of music do you listen to ??

We do a lot of highway drives and music plays a very important role. Wife takes the pain of managing the music collection , and the list includes English, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu songs.

6. Would you recommend it to others?

Well, music is an acquired taste. I would recommend anyone interested to come over for an audition though. Once I'm satisfied with the fine tuning, that is!

7. Future Upgrades

No idea. Nothing for a couple of years for sure.

Head unit : Pioneer FHX759BT

Front components: Morel Tempo two way 6

Rear Speakers : JBL cs4

Sub Woofer: Infinity Reference 1262W (in a sealed 1 cu.feet box).

Amplifier: Zapco ST-4xP.

Wiring (scosche) + Spacers + Installation Charges : ~ Rs 6500.

Total: ~ Rs 90,640/-

4. How serious were your about your system?

Very serious. Music keeps me cool while driving in bumper to bumper traffic and infamous Bengaluru traffic jams. I have become a more sedate driver on the highways thanks to music, I no longer worry about the time taken for a journey. It's all about enjoying quality music.
Sometimes use Fiio X5 DAP as source through aux-in on the headunit for lossless music files.

5. Which kind of music do you listen to ??

Hip hop and RnB dominate the playlist, but off late more into Trance and Bollywood.

6. Would you recommend it to others?

Definitely, for someone who is looking for a "laid back" sound and hates harsh/bright tweeters.

7. Future Upgrades

TA capable headunit.

Re: What ICE & @ What Price

Hello Guys,
Admin, please move to appropriate thread, since it's a question involving 2 vehicles.

I'm in market to buy a new car, and I've shortlisted Ford Ecosport Titanium & VW Polo GT Tdi.
One common thing both the car lacks or in-adequate is an ICE with proper navigation and reverse parking assistance with camera.
VW Polo GT-TDi's case :-
1)Has a touchscreen with phone linking ability with "MirrorLink".
But it's compatible with few brands/models of phones. I'm using Huawei & Xiomi, which I assume won't be compatible. (As per information shared by VW sales person).

2)Lacks the reverses camera system in the current version of HU in Polos.

So for VW Polo is there any single point solution to overcome the above 2 deficit? I'm asking for a new aftermarket HU system or another HU from other VW cars which are compatible and doesn't effect the warranty of a new vehicle.

Ford Ecosport's case :-
1)Has a HU with most of the features, but lacks the reverse camera system. Instead of opting for IRVM with camera system, is there any HU availble to retro-fit the current HU with reverse camera system?
