Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

I use a 70mai dashcam. I accidentally pasted the electrostatic sticker at the top most portion of the windshield. During rains or after using the windshield fluid the images get blurry as the camera is out of the wiper area. Is there a way to peel off the electrostatic sticker along with the dashcam pasted to it and reuse the electrostatic sticker in another location?

Looking forward to both your reviews ASAP!

I see that you stay in Navi Mumbai. Just last month my brother got 70 Mai dual channel Dashcam installed in his Sonet (with 6 airbags) from here:

I had ordered the memory card at around 5pm yesterday, it was delivered at 12pm today. The dashcam itself is yet to be dispatched.

Is anyone considering the hardwiring kit? I am not so keen. I am not happy about the recorder running 24x7x365 hours. Most of us use the car only 4% of the time, it is parked rest of the time. Why bother recording the remaining 96% of the time, just in case? These days most parking areas are covered by CCTV, I prefer to rely on that instead of recording from the car.

I have decided not to as well after lots of consideration for exactly the reasons you have listed. Thus the camera stays within my budget. Just waiting on yours and the other dude's review before I hit go.

Ps. Message from Viofo for the rear cam: Stick rear camera between defrost line... without static sticker

I was chatting with the Viofo support regarding hardwire kit. He said all Viofo recorders will stop recording after 18 hours in the parking mode, to preserve battery. So 24x7 is not a possible scenario.

However, do check with the dealer before installing hardwire kit to ensure warranty is not compromised. BTW, Viofo will soon be introducing OBD cable as an alternative to hardwire kit. Then warranty will not be an issue. You can remove it easily before taking it for service.

You can buy the Transcend MicroSD Card Reader Type C. You will need a Type C to Type C cable or OTG.

I have been using the USB one and it works good on PC.

You could consider the Viofo WM1. It has 2k Starvis 1 sensor and limited to 2.4 Ghz WiFi but should meet your requirement. Though wiring and memory cards aside, you'll have to manage both camera separately on the app and locking an emergency video on the rear camera will be impossible unless you but the bluetooth buttom accessory. A Starvis 1 based dual channel dashcam might be better overall.

Nah man. It costs as much as the A229 plus duo.

I bought the Viofo A139 dual channel (2k+1080p) Starvis 1. Cost me around 22k.

But now the 229 plus costs only 3k more with starvis 2 front and rear and 2k all around.

It doesn't matter. New things keep launching all the time. Before you know it 4k will be the norm. Whether people actually need it or not is a different discussion lol.

You got a good unit, drive safe and hope you never need to use the footage!

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Got the VIOFO 229 Plus on Amazon. This is sold by the same seller who is the only importer in India. Well informed about VIOFO and knows the selling points well.

This cost me approx 23.5k after cashbacks and a voucher I redeemed. I do think the pricing is on the higher side and would've preferred to buy something in the 15k range, but this comes with a supercapacitor which I was particular about. Planning to connect it to the lighter point till the OBD connector is available.

The advantage with the 229 series is that a 3rd channel can be retrofitted. Alternately, the T130 features 3 channels at around the same price point. The videos appear a bit oversaturated though.

BTW, I also checked Thinkware U1000. Was offered a price of 41k, but that's unreasonably expensive given that it comes with Sony Starvis version 1 sensor.

The sticker can be peeled off but you'll have to replace it. Can't reuse. You probably got extra stickers in the bix otherwise order from Nexdigitron website.
