You could go in for Illusion Electras, comps up front, ovals in the rear and a budget Ground zero sub. I'm sure somebody will help you out with the amps as I'm not too familiar with entry level amps.

You can give my reference to Vineet at Poona Motors and I assure you he'll work out a decent package.

Many a times, people just walk in for quotes, never to reappear, so they're not always taken seriously. Drive in with your car and I assure you, it'll be a very different experience.

For Illusion and Ground Zero prices, you can PM Bass&Trouble.

Fountainheader its not an infra red remote or anything. This is a plug play adapter which integrates your CURRENT steering remote buttons to be used with the kenwood Headunit!

Your volume up down, seek, mode buttons on swift steering will work. You dont need to attach any extra remote.

Well thanks a ton Vikram. I do have a flexible budget so a 30k can increase in steps. And yes i did meet up Vineet yesterday and he suggested a Alpine HU/JBL components + coaxials with a amp to tow. Total packagae was 25 -30k. Plus he suggested going for a Blaunkpunt HU Memphis/Hamburg headunit and manage with 4 components/2 coazials in back and later upgrading to a good ampliefier + subwoofer system.

I understand that the memphis can power the four compnents speakers for the time being. Also he never mentioned the damping part - what type and what would be a good budget for the same.

PS: It shows that skys the limit - and its never enough to feed the human psyche.

Anything to beat this config....

Hi
After going to in-numerable number of thread in this section and getting as much gyan as possible for my novice ear, finally i settled down on what i want in my swift vdi.

1) Audio unit
2) Front components - not too bright/ not much of shrill.........
3) 4 channel Amp (2 to comp and 2 bridged to sub)
4) A sub with not much of boom boom kind of sound....

The idea is to get the best SQ on not so big budget.....looking for a system under 25k.....

I listen to all kind of song but notably songs from 60's, 70's (both eng and hindi) rock from all genres.....and current bollywood stuff........not at all into hip-hop, pop and trance music

After reading a lot, went to 'Driven' yesterday to check the configuration availaible at this price range...Following was suggested.....

1) Audio Unit - Kenwood 5039 (w/o B/W) - Rs 5700 or kenwood 6539 (B/W) Rs 9500

2) Amplifier - Blaupunkt GTA4 Spl mkII - 6300 (B/W)

3) Components - Bull audio - Rs 5900 (with B/W) / JBL 608c Rs 4500 (w/o B/W)

4) Sub + box - Bull - Rs 6500

Other costs include cable, wire, sockets and MDF ring for comps totalling Rs 1400 and Power kit _ RCA fpr Rs 4500

Total - Rs 30.3K (for bull setup with 5039)

I would end up picking kenwood 6539 even though it might end up being little costly for me, but would prefer something with B/W for head unit.

I would go and listen to some installs on sat and sunday.

Queries : -
1) For components, is the Bull best or anything else that needs to be tried in this price range as per my listening preference. I have listened to JBL and ID. JBL is little bright, ID sounds excellent but they are costly...any suggestions ?

2) What about amplifier ? I am not able to find the much loved kenwood 8401 anywhere, is the Blaupunkt GTA4 mkII good enough ?

3) I might end up upgrading in two stages. Head unit + components first and then sub and amp after a month or so because of lack of Vitamin M (tax saving time)

Disclaimer : i have already exceeded my budget by 10k (20k was limit but the quote from driven is for around 30K). I know with with swift damping is necessary but at present would not like to spend more than it because most of the money goes in my photography expenses.

Looking for all advices....

Depends upon your taste. Audition both. Bull suits my taste better.

GTA4 is a good Amp

3) I might end up upgrading in two stages. Head unit + components first and then sub and amp after a month or so because of lack of Vitamin M (tax saving time)

My advice is you get Amp + HU + Components in one go and get the Sub later on. If you buy those 3 things in one go you will end up spending around 25-26K.

Damping is a must for SWIFT

@deeps79, go for the 6539! In addition to the extra features & B&W, it sounds better.

Considering this is a Swift, you will definitely have to do some damping in the front doors.

Yep, installing in 2 stages will be definitely a good idea. It is a good thing you are going to check out some installs before the install. It will give you a good idea of what to look for in your setup.

@abhibh & hydrashok
thanks for your inputs.....i will be most probably picking up 6539 with B/W.

yeah prices for bull has increased, rise of $ as u said....

I will try to squeeze in the damping atleast for front door.

My main concern was the amp, i heard one of the installs with kenwood 8401 and it was quite good.
hope that i would be able to hear GTA over the weekend

Will keep you guys updated on the setup....

If you stretch your budget a bit you should be able to get the 8404 w/B&W for some 9.5K or so. That's another nice amp.

That would be really tough.....i read somewhere that its always good to have amp and head unit of same company. is it really so ?

I was in khan mkt yesterday and just inquired offhand about kenwood 8401, the guy said i can get one for 4500 Rs without B/W.

Dont know how trustable it will be buy one from there spl when its w/o B/w

is kenwood 8401 really worth the risk of buying without b/w from a not known dealer ?

kenwood 6539 v/s Blaupunkt Hamburg 57

so i was able to audition JBL, Pioneer, ID and bull components....

JBL and Pioneer were too bright for my taste.......ID was best though as i said earlier it will be too costly as per my budget....Bull sounded decent (i heard them w/o amp with Hamburg 57). I expect that with Amp, it would sound much better.

Couple of queries :-
  1. I was more or less sold on kenwood 6539 but came to know that i can get hamburg 57 w/o B/W for 8500 Rs. Feature wise ofcourse Kenwood is much better but hamburg has bluetooth functionality. Which one would be a better combination :-
    1. Bull components + Blaupunkt Hamburg 57 + GTA4 amp
    2. Bull Components + Kenwood 6539 + GTA4 Amp
I would prefer the one wiht better SQ. But if there is not much of difference in SQ of both, will it better to go with Blaupunkt (even though its in grey)

Help Please!

Hi, could the gurus please confirm if my train of thought is ok...

Current System:
HU: kenwood KDC-MP5033U - Nice but only 2 pre-outs. Can adjust treble, bass and mids.
JBL GTO 607C Front Compos- A little bright for my taste, but quite ok with treble, mids at lowest setting in the HU
Kenwood Coaxs Rear - very ordinary

Current Car: Swift VXi. 2 yrs 4 months. Might sell the same in 8/9 months.
Therfore, dont want to spend a bomb on ICE. Plan is to sell the Swift with Kenwood HU and Rear Coaxs.

ICE Plan:

1. Kenwood 8401 4 Channel Amp (Around 4.8 K without B&W). Read here that it's a mellow amp, I'd love it to tone down my JBLs
2. JBL GT 5 Subwoofer (2.2k without B&w) + Sealed Enclosure (1.5k). No mono amp. The above amp would be bridged.
3. Noise Kill - Front Doors + Boot (around 20 sq ft - rs.100/sq ft)
4. Ground Zero wiring (3K).

Installer I would visit: Boom, Bandra

Cost: Around 14-14.5 K for above... Would like to stick under the 15 K budget.

Issues which trouble me:
1. Zohir (Boom) insists on Ground Zero wiring saying they're much better than Stingers, which would cost half as much. Worth it?
2. Without a sub-pre out in the HU, would controlling the sub be a huge issue? Zohir says he'll set it up ok, but says that its a compromise - the sub might sound as if its been 'smothered' . Also, the Rear speaker control in the HU would control the sub and not the rear coax, is this right?
3. Are the prices ok?
4. My wife hates bass. would making the 'R' setting in the HU silence the sub?

If you guys give me the go-ahead for the above, I'll get this job done on Thursday with Zohir!
(want my navigator in Sunday's Blind Man rally to enjoy the music!)

Stingers have a much better reputation than GZ, so i am not sure whether what he says about GZ wiring is true. All hearsay though !
