Re: Transcend DrivePro 200 Review - Dash Cam / DVR

I recently went paragliding and in the absence of a GoPro, decided to try recording my flight on the DP220.

And it worked like a charm!

The battery covered the entire 12 min flight and the audio and video quality is seriously impressive!

All this is even cooler when you get to see your speed and altitude during the flight!

Any thoughts on which is better? The 520 or the 230? Dual camera is not a deal breaker.

Re: Transcend DrivePro 200 Review - Dash Cam / DVR

I am using Transcend DP 220 for close to 1.5 years. Recently recording gets stuck after few seconds/minutes & screen freezes. Anyone faced such issues? Any suggestion for fixes will be helpful

Please download the latest firmware version from Transcend website and update the camera. See if problems is solved or not. I've been using it since last over 3 years. I faced similar issue once but it was resolved after firmware update.

Re: Transcend DrivePro 200 Review - Dash Cam / DVR

My Drive pro 100's date time settings keep going back to default i.e. 01/01/2014 every time I set the date. The camera is 3 years old and holding strong apart from the date issue. Is the battery on it's way out? I think 3 years it has done well.

Re: Transcend DrivePro 200 Review - Dash Cam / DVR

Just an update. I went ahead and bought the 520 and I'm very happy with it. It doesn't have the speed and lane departure warnings but the rear camera is great especially when offroading with a newbie next to you. The expressions I've captured at priceless.

However, the IR on the rear facing camera is very weak and at night it barely covers the centre halves of the driver and co passenger.

Re: Transcend DrivePro 200 Review - Dash Cam / DVR

So the 2000 kms road road trip to Rajasthan had me worried about how many cards i would need to carry for the trip as i prefer to save dashcam videos. To my surprise the Drivepro 220 supported my 200 GB micro SD perfectly and i needed just one card to complete the entire trip
P.S- I have set recording to 720 p.

Re: Transcend DrivePro 200 Review - Dash Cam / DVR

Informative thread on the transcend series. It looks like the product line up has been changed. The models available on the official website are drive pro 550, 230, 200, 110, 50.

I am contemplating among 230 and 200. Though 230 supports GPS, stacked CMOS image sensor (Sony) and latest fancy features (like lane departure warning, front collision detection etc), the wide angle is limited to 130 degree. The 200 model support 160 deg angle with conventional CMOS sensor, lacks GPS and other fancy features which I am not really bothered about considering the driving conditions in India.

However I am not sure about the advantages of stacked CMOS sensor in 230 over conventional CMOS in 200. Technically/theoretically this is supposed to give better image quality due to the unique arrangement of pixel section (my understanding based on few online reads), But practically does it make much difference? I have not been able to find any video clips comparing 200 vs 230 yet.

Other parameters like aperture, frame rate, resolution, recording format, storage are all similar. Cost wise 230 is 3000 Rs lesser that 200. So might not be a bad option to go for it if new CMOS provide better image quality, compromising on the extra wide angle available on 200?

Please help with your expertise on this.
