dsinz, there are quite a few HUs that wil take input directly from USB drives. And even from SD & MMC cards.

Kenwood has a few near the 10K mark. I've tried out a Blau model in the showroom (Memphis) with a 2 GB USB drive filled to the brim. The USB & SD/MMC compatible Blau's are (over) priced between 17K and 27K.

Sony has a model with a faceplate that holds 1GB. The faceplate needs to be connected to a computer (just like any USB drive) to feed it tunes.

@NIP, Blaupunkt has a DVD HU -- DVD-ME4 -- that plays DVD, MP3, CD-RW & DivX files. Dolby digital surround output. The 2006/2007 catalog calls it a "single DIN stand alone DVD player", so I guess it doesn't need a separate HU to piggyback on. No idea of price.

Yessir... The new Pios (and the Alpines IIRC) do DivX. Another feature that I think needs to be incorporated more often in DVD players is the "GIGA-MP3" (so called by JVC) ability to play MP3s, WMAs, AACs from a DVD+RW. Imagine having 8.54GB of lossless music on a single disc. A much cheaper and practical solution to iPods etc. Apparently, this is now available on the Pio 6850 and the Alpine W200.

Hey Jesal,

Gunbir is talking of the AVH-P6850DVD. It's a built in dash DVD player with a 7" LCD display.

I recently installed this system in my Corolla...I bought it for Rs.60K in grey market. This system is worth the price tag..it not just a head-unit..it is a complete in-car entertainment center.
