Just because 9887 has ipod support it doesn't makes the P80 inferior. What P80 lacks in features i.e just the inbuilt ipod control it makes up for it in sound which Alpine can never match and i doubt it will even sound better with IMPRINT KIT (i have never used the kit with alpine 9887).

Also to use all the eq'ing features of Alpine u have to buy IMPRINT KIT but with P80 you get everything in built.

If its about sound go with P80!

Now this is news to me! You are, if not the first, one of the very very few people who are saying that the Pioneer P80RS is better than the Alpine 9887. As far as I know through the many reviews on the internet and on TBHP itself, the Alpine is supossed to be the best headunit so far in terms of sound (without Imprint) and that too for that price!

You could also look at the Kenwood X7016. Comes with TA, Direct iPod Control and 4V RCA outs. Retails for around 12-13k I believe.

I am not saying that Alpine is bad. Its a good HU with great build. But comparing it with P80 it looses out on SQ / tonality specially as Alpine mid range is very attacking and exaggerated. I (My ears) fee fatigue if i listen to Alpine for like an hour or so.

7016 shits on Alpine 9887 when it comes to overall sound. Specially Mid range and higher end. But Kenwood looses out on build (a little bit) and features (Active capability).

Oh my goodness!! This is going to be a never ending quest for me. I am already having trouble choosing between 2 HUs and our man The Lord has suggested a Kenwood now....

Ok my main issue is that I love Pioneers coz they look good and are user friendly too so that is my preference. But the Pioneer P80RS doesn't have the direct iPod connection which is really disappointing as that is the basic feature in all HUs sold today. Its like buying a highend car with no power windows!!! Models like the P880PRS and P88RSII are not available or sold here as told to me by the Pioneer Sales Department in Delhi. Hence, the only option left was to look at the Alpine 9887 which anyway has superb reviews and have everything I want. Hell, it is even cheaper than the Pioneers!!!

Is there any other Pioneer HU with these features and which is easily available in Mumbai/India? Can anyone guide me to a good reliable store in Mumbai that can help me with highend Pioneer headunits?

Well there is 8650 and 8850 but none of them has iPod Support in built.

BTW what other equipment do you have in car, maybe the Alpine will compliment it. 7016 from kenwood is a good HU for the price. You just lose out on Active Capability which is available both in Alpine 9887 and P80.

My equipment is not highend and hence dont want to spend more than 20k-22k on the HU. I dont even plan to go Active at the moment. The reason being that I plan to keep my car for another 3 yrs only and get highend Amps and Speakers when I get a new car. Now, I am sure I will probably need to upgrade my HU too by that time but that can be done at a much later stage and atleast I will have a HU which can be used in Active mode so I will need to invest in good amps & speakers only and not spend that much at that moment. My equipment consists of :

Front Comps - Illusion Electra EL 6.1
Rear Coax - Illusion Electra EL 5.1
4ch Amp - JBL GTO 75.4
Mono - JBL GTO 30.1
Sub - Infinity Ref 1200T (Will be upgrading to Infinity 120.9)

There are many ipod only HUs available. THe ones that impress me most (with their ipod integration) are from Alpine but Alpine is not cheap.

Guys can someone recommend a HU with USB for under 6k? My unit has pretty much given up playing CDs so need help. I got quotes from Pio2290 from 5800-6800 with bill. Is it good? Any other(better) model which I can get for under 6k?

You can very well try the Pioneer 4190-SD. It has a front USB port and a SD card slot also. You get that at around 6K without B&W.

I got mine without B&W before 4 months for 6.3K. It is good.
