Phaji it was not even average. I did not like the sound. The only thing missing in that car was tunning.

Pioneer fits the bill perfectly considering your budget. I would recommend you use more of your budget towards amp/ speakers rather than spending more for the head unit.. since the budget is just 20k. (please excuse the use of the word just to describe a 20k budget )

80% of your budget on the head unit?

Use a 4-ch amp, 2 channels to drive the sub and the other 2 to drive the front comps. Run the rear off the HU.

A difference of Rs. 1500-2000 in speakers could bring about a far greater improvement in SQ than going in for Alpine over Pioneer - again, at the contemplated budgets.

All of the ones you name are built in China but still, Soundstream best built? Dunno bout that one.

A good 8 ga kit costs about Rs. 2k. You will need atleast one additional RCA - approx Rs. 400-800/-. Rather than using Auzo, use the speaker cable provided with the speakers.

Considering I am still a noob, that is pretty much a logical statement.

For how much can I get a good 12" subwoofer from

Hertz
Hifonics
Rockford Fosgate Puch
and JBL?
And how does that compare to the Boston Acoustics GS1200 12" sub?

and for how much can I get a good monoblock for the sub from the same brands?

I will try to play mix and match to fix the budget as well as the parts.

devarshi - You need to clear out a few things first and foremost. The HU is not going to add much of a difference in sound, all HUs are having a output of 50x4, so if you go for Dhoom HU(they dont make one) or Clarion HU, the sound is not going to be much different as both would be having a output of 50x4.

A system having goos speakers, amp, sub is more important then a system having a very good HU.

Therefore stop thinking about getting a sexy HU, with looks and all as it doesnot matter. You want USB right, get a Pioneer 4050UB or Sony GTAbla-bla-bla for 6k, grey.

Here is what i would suggest for a budget of 20k

Pioneer 6050UB(comes with USB) - 6k(who told you 9k, for 9k you will get the 7950UB)
Left - 14k
JBL CS Compos - Rs. 3.5k with B&W(They are basically the GTO606, AFAIK)
Install - 1k
Damping Front Doors using Noise Kill - 1k
The JBL CS 60.4 has been discontinued and has been replaced by the GT5-A604. Dont go for Sony, as far as Car Audio goes i find they crappy.

Since your budget is not much, its difficult to get a good amp and sub, so either you increase your budget or skimp on either of them.

You can skimp on the amp and get a active bass tube for 6.5k with in built mono.

Else get a JBL GT4-12 or is it 5-12 sub for 4k and ported enclosure for another .5k

You can get a Pio 6300, Blau GT4 amp to power the sub and front compos.

Leave the rear 6x9s as it is.

You can also upgrade in parts, by getting good speakers now and then later amp and then HU.

Remember you need to get good quality RCA's which will cost a significant bit. You might also need mounting brackets for speakers and wiring harness to connect HU.

Here is how the pio will look on your Lancer.

Who told you 6K? I have been quoted 9K for the 6050, and 8.6K for the 7950.
I know that the 6050 should be cheaper, but 6K is really low. Is this your guess, or has someone actually quoted that to you? (In which case please do let me know the dealer!! )

First buy HU with 2 compos and 2 coaxes with given of 20K budget, later on buy a 4 channel amp, then if you feel like to have more bass then go for mono amp and subwoofer.
Powering a subwoofer with 4 channel amp in bridged mode dosent gives you that kinda punch.
Mumbai is the place for sourcing these stuff visit and buy it off.

Nope CS compo's are not the GTO606.

Id suggest spending a little more and getting the new JBL GT5 components. Baaki as per BassheadBusa's recommendation.

Bass head after you got the illusions

Nah man CS series technology maybe a little similar to GTO series but they definately not the same.

The speaker performance is also a world apart.

I would suggest GTO series instead of GT5. I heard GT5 recently and they are not as bright at GTO series.

Oh and BTW i am in a similar dilema as "devarshi84'. Original budget was 10K and now it has jumped to 20k and god knows what will happen if i post here.
