Well I think insted of over rated CPU one cam comfortably use ARM or similar processor which would be easy on power and OS requirements.

I was working on this project way back in 2006. I would be happy if it can also double up as Data Logger and if it can display the engine parameters including tyre pressure in realtime. I am sure it should be possible.

Another feature worth having is multiple screen so each one in the car can watch a movie they like with a headphone to each screen.

Thinking a bit loud, you can have a wireless keyboard and mouse to type on the go and save it on the USB

It is suggested to use an atom processor powered mother board for mobile use as it consumes less power and doesnt generate much heat which is a major part which has to kept in mind while building a carputer so think over it once.

@Prometheus. All the best for your carputer.
Listed components decided by you are good.
Power Suplply. you can get it locally from iride with support.

Keyboard with trackball. head over to Welcome to Usb.brando.com
i have been using it since Feb. and it is working good.

FM tuner. i havent tried it in my car but you can buy it from. https://www.silabs.com/products/mcu/...FMRadioRD.aspx

in carputer world. FE is the most IMP. thing. try different FE. I like CF. which is to install and usability is way better than any other FE.

@myshanks.
Data Logger and Real time TPMS is possible.

if you guys will do a group buy you have to pay the import duty then, because this will be considered as "for sale".

Thanked: Once

netarchie + kingofmyworld + myshanks + nisarg86

thank you very much for your advice! i'm definitely going to rethink my setup. i've been in a lot of pain lately and so couldn't reply earlier.

anyway, i was not too sure about the internet connection on the go because of the cost, but i think i might have stumbled on a viable solution for updating maps on the go with GPS and light internet usage.

GPRS Modem Dongle

High Speed 3G USB Modem - EDGE and HSDPA

with these usb modems you could use a prepaid SIM and keep costs at a minimum. since they also allow you to make calls and receive calls, mms and sms it could double as a car phone!

cheers!

These chinese GPRS modem dongle are available in India too, I've seen one in my city, it was 3G ready and costed 3500 i think it was imported by some peripheral company and was marketed by them.

Not sure about its performance as the shop keeper was shocked when i told him, this doesn't connects until you insert a SIM CARD

Also Having a carputer with such device active in car will help you track it down, should it gets stolen.

Offtopic: i just woke up from a dream (woke sweating badly) where my car was lifted from local area and police said you'll be attended in few hours..
