He blew them because he said he was playing them full blast, hence the setting was done w/o any margin or safe zone that the compo's got over powered and gave up.A bit lesser gains would helped him save those compo's.IMO

There is no need to audition the results have been giving out by the user.

I once auditioned my JBLs on the "SQ" amp.. results were horrible! So, as abhinav rightly pointed out I'd not like to hear them on 8401. What we can do is I can remove your illusions and test in my car if you're OK with it.. and no worries if come in the day time and not evening!

So many auditions!!

Panky, hats off to you man!! You are so particular about your music! You patiently audition all the good speakers & then decide which ones to go for.
Respect your patience and love for music.

The tweeter's didnt play as bright on the 8401 as they use to be on your power phull amp ? What was so horrifying?

heard this "SQ" amp on a couple of occasions on different set-ups. Sorry! fails to impress me..

Anyways, any constructive ideas on front comps?

Ground Zero is a good option too. Try alpine also. Yayatti has it on his ride. Sound good enough though expensive.

And dont worry, i will be more than happy to help you with the audition of my compos on your 75.4 !

Gound Zero is on a higher side.. I'd prefer JBL power series that way!

give him some credit guys, after all, since the poor kenwood amp in question is made of transistors, no wonder it sounds like them .

panky how about polk components then, given that you think most comps are too laid back

the GTO's are too puny to stand your 75.4, and you cant afford the power series. you'll have to adjust somewhere

sure, would like to audition them, any model # and prices?.. BTW, when did I say most comps are laid back. I was refering to rainbows that I heard. rest of the discussion was on "SQ" amp that can make any speaker in the world "laid-back".

db series 6501's ?
i think they cost 9.5k MRP, 5.5k grey

and they're rated at 100W RMS , close to the 104W the 75.4 puts out

Yes, Panky-ji, those who exaggerate incidentally feel a lot about the subject and that also very honestly and with a lot of conviction. Unfortunately, exaggeration has nothing to do with those feelings and honesty - it is an expression disproportionate with the reality, and this anomaly is rather easy to figure out.

Saying music played through the 8401 was sounding like a Philips radio discounts the fact that
a. you had not condemned the speakers
b. the speakers were not the 2" or 3" fullrange speakers found in radios
c. unless the equalization on HU or band-pass in the amp is set to attenuate all frequencies below 200Hz and above 4K, it is impossible for that amp to selectively refuse to work for you

Agreed that it did not impress you, but the way you describe it was stretching a deficiency into a death sentence. Maybe Kenwood should sell a bottle of magic oil to compensate for that.
