so that means it doesnt have 3 preouts which will certainly pose a few probs if ur driving a amp with a sub..for just 4 speakers this should work fine..but with a sub to be added ul loose out on the fader with 2 preouts which could be very important if ur looking out for front soundstaging..and ya the 52x4 is max not rms...im sure sam and navin will add their views too...wonder where JB and gunbir have disappeared to off lately..

im just going for it because, they give it for free!!! i may put it in my dad's car, if i don't feel good about the sound..
sam, the accessories guys say that it cost more than 8K in the market!! which i doubt... should not be more than 6-7K!
i won'be getting a cash discount if i don't take the HU...
so i'd rather take it for now!!!
which is the best set of speakers that would be good in the car!!!
a complete pack excluding the HU!!!
budget would be around 10~12K...
that is 2 frontal co-axials (as i doubt the ikon has a provision for a tweeter in the front)...
and a set of two woofers for the back.
and an amp for all four!!! (prolly 4 channel)
will all this come in the budget!!!
sam, advice!!!
and BTW, your take on the KBC hand wave was good!! i'd been wondering on that!!! maybe they orgs make them do it!!!

me thinks it has only 1 pair of RCA outs which can be used fullrange (rear only) or via a low pass filter (subwoofer).

this means that he will have to use this HU's amp to drive the front. Most HUs cant deliver more than 8-10W rms/ch/4ohms/20-20k/<0.1%.

Get some nice speakers up front- components if you can affford them; then get a sub and an amp and some rear fill.

Sure. I do not have a digital camera but McLaren can take a pic when I meet him. It is an MDF tray.

Sorry, it is not an MDF tray. Looks like it is particle board but it is 1 inch thick and the bass is amazing. It will decimate all (almost all) when I install an amp.

you HU mgiht not be able to use a 4 channel amp. it might have only 2 RCA out which can be used either for the rear speakers or for the sub.

even a basic sub (say JBL free air) and amp (Sony 502) will run you about 8K.

dont see how you can fit a sub, amp and 4 speakers in 12K. 4 good speakers would run you about 8K as well.

in that case i may have to blow my budget a bit more!!! don't mind doing that but would i have to change the HU also!!!!
can i just stick to the speakers in the packeage and add the sub and amp alone would that give me a decent sound (nothing exhilarating of course, but atleast decent)

I dont know Sony speakers. The brands I know (Alpine and Infinity) I know very well.

See if you change your HU you should look for one that has 3 pre outs. Now these dont come cheap. then you need 5-6 channels of amplifer power and the cheapest way to get that is to get a Sony 504 and 502 for about 8K. Then you need a sub, and 4 speakers and these would cost you about 14K. so the amp and speakers would cost about 22K. and this is about the low end of serious audio.

My Dad used to tell me "the best things in life might be free, but the good things are pretty damn expensive".

You can also consider a Pioneer 305/306 sub starting at 2.2k to 2.7k respectively. You can either go for a custom MDF enclosure for 1k more or a local box for 300Rs. So that makes it 4k. This will sound tighter than the JBL tube imo! Just to throw more options at you!

navin,
the speakers are not of sony (offered by ford), i couldn't find a name on them, just the ford oval!!! don't know what's that ...
well if i plan to stick to the same set of speakers, and try to put in an additional sub + amp would that help me in getting some good sound, low end bass with some good punch!
if that is good enuf, i would stick to it for now!!! but as u said, for me to add a sub, i need 3 pre outs right?
is there any other way of doing it instead of changing the HU

Well you could use a Y-cable and split the RCAs into 2. No harm done, only no fader/sub control.
