Dont about the prices, and I have not heard the Hertz or Clarion so I am recommending you to listen first.

Hi Navin, thanks much; will certainly listen. I hope I am able to locate the Clarion & Hertz with B&W. If not I will need other options please.

Hi,

I've been trying in vain to source a Pioneer DEH P80MP HU here in Hyderabad, the dealers I've been to so far only seem to have 6850 as the top Pioneer pick. A couple had the 8850, something that I'd rather not get - OEL is bad enough and a colour display will be a total waste.

Need help with the following:

Any pointers about where I should look in Hyderabad for one of these?

What are my other options in the sub 15k HU price bracket?

What are the HUs comparable in performance to the P80? (no Sony please)

Should I want Alpine in Hyderabad, where do I look?

This will be the first step in the long awaited upgrade from my existing Pioneer Tape/CD changer setup. I'd love to try Alpine, but they seem impossible to find, other than some 7*** model and the 9847.

TIA!

Get soem CDA series from Alpine IF you are gonna get one. P80Rs is available but @ 20k+

vcd/dvd Hu are available at 10k or so. There's a Kenwood HU @ 13k which is supposed to be good. Forgot the name/series.

Navin I differ to your conclusion because the box material I think do matters. The construction part is also complex. The thickness, dimensions are important and once done wrongly cannot be rectified later. And as Sam said it is a hassel also. But again there is jk, kb who are real enthusiasts and is going to help me out to get it done correctly. On top of that; you, Sam are the experts so I'm more than assured that I'm NOT going to do any mistakes. Regarding wood vs MDF; I think MDF is much more stiff and stronger than wood and also I think cheaper (correct me if I'm wrong). A sub in a properly build sub box makes a hell and heaven difference than a poorly build one; isn't it? Not only that, at the time of doing some research and review I came to know that the placement of the sub is also very critical; such that a properly build and placed 100 watts system can beat a 1600 watts system. This is really amazing.

Well made, considering all your woofer's characteristics.; Not too many people can or will go through the entire hassle of that.
Also i didn't recommend that you carry a boxed sub from the USA - that would be madnesslol:
I merely recommeded it, assuming you were going to buy the boxed sub here.

okay sam. it was basically my interpretation of what you said.

I was looking for the P80MP, not the RS. I understand the P80MP is another name for the P1Y.

Yeah, I sure love the P80RS and asked about it, but I've firmly been told it isn't available. I may just have settled for it if it was!

While I dont foresee the need for a DVD display (the kids have a portable & headphones) the only reason I'd be interested in a DVD HU is that a DVD+-R disc can hold 4+ gb of music. Question is, do DVD HU's play MP3 off a DVD disc? Which DVD unit would I be looking for that compares to the P1Y in performance?

Thanks

lol Delu... What Dear Succinct Sir Navin meant was so long its built to SPEC using any think wood/MDF it should be okay... spec means eveything including the silicon used to seal the edges!... the thickness of hte material and the design both contribute to reducing resonance.

... lol... Believe me Delu... Navin knows his subs... and he can 'Box' any of them in 30 secs flat - in his SLEEP! -- that too in so many myriad ways you may not believe possible... There is a thread here somewhere about woofer box designs...

here you go!!

nice one Sam.

YAY.... clap:NAVIN ...NAVIN ... NAVIN :Cheering:

When I logged on for this "job" my hope was to get enough younger men together and go peacefully into the sunset. Never thought it would turn into a fan club.

Thanks to B&T, LBM, JK, Gunbir, Sam, JB, etc...my mission is more than complete. You guys must notice that I post a lot less now.

Regarding MDF vs Wood (which i assume you mean Play and not the hardwoods). Void free Ply is infact stronger and stiffer than MDF. MDF is cheaper but is a pain to work with esp if you use power tools.

That said in my experience as long as the box is stiff and does NOT resonate it should work fine. I have seen boxes made of Marble, Various metals (sutiable damped), Fiberglass, Carbon fiber, various woods (Ply, MDF and some hardwoods), and Concrete and even built a few boxes myself. It is only my observation. As always i hoped to be proved wrong as that leads to learning something new.
