setup for corsa

hey guys and namaste to the audio guru s
i am getting a new corsa this week and intrested in upgrading the sound system bit by bit. as of now i have the system from my old zen removed and that is -

sony 5510 HU
sony GF1021X - 10" at front and
Kenwood 6989ie - 6"x9" at rear.

I am not planning to spend much on the system - about 8k max and a woofer is big NO NO.
Please suggest me a pair of good speakers for front as well as rear and if required, an amplifier too. i intend to keep the old HU

Get the JBL/Blaupunkt/Alpine components for the front. You could probably retain the Kenwood 6x9s if you like the sound. An extra amp would be good.

Do it yourself, my man! Seriously. I installed the system for my car. It is not very tough and there are enough people here to help you out. Give it a shot.

HK, I would give it to the GM guys but make sure you check on alternator whine before taking delviery. My wife's sail came with this and I had a hard time getting them to admit to a faluty install.

Whoa ! 10" speakers in the front....Is that a mistake?

Get your self a pair of good component speakers after you listen to a few brands avaialble in your city. 5 1/4" speakers would do. Spend around 5000 on them.

Hey Kanitkar,
I am in the process of upgrading my Corsa too. The following was 'Approved' by M/s Navin Sam & Co.
1. HU Blaupunkt (tape) + Car DVD system (These I already have)
2. JBL 426e(front) - Rs 2250
3. JBL 936(Rear) - Rs 4750
3. Sony 504z - Rs 3900

I am adding the below since I am going in for the sub.
4. JBL CS1200T Tube - Rs 5500
5. Sony 502z - Rs 2500

Hope this is useful. The prices I have shown are the best quotes I have got thus far in Mumbai. So that should be a good indicator for you.

given that you are adding a 1200T it might make sense to get 426e (or other 4-5") in the rear pods. you dont need the 936 drawing attention to themsleves in the rear.

BTW I dont recommend any speakers. JBL are good. So are Alpine and Infinity. The rest depends on taste. I am also quite sure that there are other excellent brands like Hertz out there but i have not heard them.

I would look at 4-5-6" speakers (based on cutout) in the front and rear and a sub.

That saves some money too But don't you think that the sub will drown the rear 426e. BTW, how exactly will the 1200T be installed....is it box enclosed ?

I thought the 1200T is a tube?

No the sub operates at different freq. (bass) while the 4-5-6" operate in the mids and highs.

one thing though try a sealed box sub as well. it might sound "tighter".. also you can do what i did. a sealed box sub would not fit into the cavity i had so i used a tube and stuffed the port to taste.

with a little bit of expreimentation you can get some very decent sound in a car.

It will take about half a day at the most if you get doubts in between and need to get them cleared. Risk? Come on man! If a pure sciences guy like me can do it, surely an engineering student should have no problem.
