any idea how many 24 bit dac's clarion hxd2 and mcintosh or nakamichi hi-end units have?
This one has 4 24-bit dac and the HX-D2 has 2 24-bit dac. I had the pleasure to listen to the HX-D2 and P99 both. But IMHO I find P99 superior in every aspect.

indeed , the pioneer is far superior . i was unhappy with the idea that hxd2 only plays audio cd's. while pioneer has everything that i can crave in a head unit.

so LBM where's the review? I'm waiting with bated breath to see what this HU has done for your system that the 80 and alpine processor couldn't! As you know it's on my wish list.

It is not what it plays but how well it plays that counts. For audiophiles MP3, FLAC, etc.. are not really an option they consider.

After using this unit for sometime, I can easily say it is truly a great head unit, The USB iPod connectivity is superb, Its simply un-believable how this unit picks up a fully filled Pen drive, its instant, connect and it reads. The Audio settings are out of this world and loads of tunning options available.

Very good choice of HU LBM, I am sure you are enjoying every bit of it.

EDIT: The remote is also something very unique, you can control all settings through the remote itself, the design and everything is well thought off, delight to use it.

I am shocked to see the price of this HU and my eyes are wide open like the ones in new vista quadrajet drivetech4 ad - "I AM SURPRISED".
I have very little knowledge of ICE Technicalities, specially HUs but after reading all the discussion/posts above and what ever little I undrstood about it, I would say Stunning HU.

Wow. Sleek looking HU. Congrats LBM.

My query - what's the advantage of having higher bits in the DAC ? Does that mean more data is sent per unit time ? Does that mean that the square wave that the DAC renders to analog is more accurate ?

Congrats LBM. It's a drool worthy set alright.

I have experienced (and still do) Pioneer products in my car and home audio. Both came with B-B DACs and know how good they sound. Infact I prefer the analog outout to digital. The B-Bs are that good.

Yes LBM, P99 comes with AKM...

I was referring to the Pioneer sound sources I had/have. The car HU was kitted with B-B. So does my current home CD player. They sounded great so I can imagine what the P99 sounds like.

Cheers!

It's the DEH-P01

After a lot of wait and deciding between the Pioneer P99RS and JBL MS-8, choose the Pioneer DEH-P01, the Japanese version of P99RS which comes with 6 channel amplifier. Initial plans were to get the MS8 due to the simplicity and various option of setup that one could do. I was almost sold on the auto EQ feature of the MS8 but I also liked the feature of having 4dacs and the processing power of the Pioneer. I am person who would like to spend more time on the tuning as per my taste, as well it's the cleaner audio signal output that the Pioneer gives out is what I was looking at plus more. It is also rumored that the Japanese version, Carrozzeria has better internals compared to P99RS that the rest of the world gets. Not sure how true that is.
It should be here by 3rd week of Aug. In the meantime plan is to look for better amp and speaker sets in coming days.

Cheers!
