Lovely captures, nkghai - and certainly one for the archives! Just proves that old adage - that all babies (apart from scorpions, centipedes & spiders!) are irresistible.

Thanks a ton Shashanka.
I am actually trying to capture a complete cycle from nest building, laying of eggs, hatching, growing up and flying away of two Pond Heron couples. Lets see if i get good photographs and can share the sequence with all.
It is fascinating to be with these beauties every day.

That's a great target to have set oneself - and I hope you succeed. I shall certainly be looking forward to the photo record of the sequence!

Re: The Official non-auto Image thread

All Birders here,

Would any of you have a pic of a stork standing in water, with one leg folded ?

Else, in flight.

Need pics for a specific use and I will share details.

TIA !

Another one for my archives, Nilanjanji,

with due credit of course! The photo of the tar road takes you into the happier, misty world of childhood nostalgia - where has it all gone! The more remote areas of the Allahabad of my childhood had such roads, meandering through guava orchards, where we - having bunked school - had countless escapes from the khatiks guarding the guavas from rascals like us.

Those meandering roads are part of the cringe-inducing concrete jungle of state-of-the-art Allahabad today. Gone are much of the orchards & the priceless ambiance that they evoked. Thank you once again for that nostalgia trip.

I try and take such meandering roads through nowhere whenever I can safely do so. Whether during my weekend drives or x000 km roadtrips to Central India or the Himalayas.

A shortcut from Kisli to Baihar in the night through a forest trail (I have a 4x4 so it was ok). Or one through Kuno Palpur Sanctuary. Or one through Sitabani and Powalgarh reserve forests. Or a broken trail through the outskirts of Satpura NP (that was a silly decision, lost 3 hours and reached the forest rest house exhausted and in the dark).

If I drive up North (might, gettibg restless) and pass through Lucknow, will ping you to see if we can catch up over a coffee. There is this photo tour in Dudhwa in Nov, I might drive down from Bangalore.

That would make my day - catching up over a cup of coffee with the Nilanjan Ray! I'll certainly be here in Lucknow (at least till the 21st of this month) and shall look forward to your buzz!
