Re: The Official non-auto Image thread

This is one of my favorite pictures. This is from the Goa drive we took. My younger twin (Yes, I have twin daughters !!) went just crazy for sea and started running towards it whenever she got opportunity. This is one of those moments.

Re: The DSLR Thread

Hi guys.. I am back with a few more photos. Kindly give feedback and tips to improve.

The Official non-auto Image thread-img_4228.jpg

Painted storks from Malampuzha Palakkad. Shot at 250mm, f5.3, 1/800s, ISO 400

The Official non-auto Image thread-img_20170323_220439.jpg

Peacock near my home. Shot at 250mm, f5, 1/250s, ISO 3200 since it was a cloudy evening.

The Official non-auto Image thread-img_20170228_200913.jpg

Asian koel near my home. Shot at 250mm, f6, 1/100, ISO 200.

The first two images I feel are not that sharp. The subjects were father away compared to the third picture.

In the second picture the lighting was not that favorable. Any suggestions for improvement? Your honest feedbacks are indeed useful.

Wow! I somehow not gave much attention to "Shifting Gears" section over the years. It's hidden treasure. Loads of valuable info on almost all topics. Truly great.

Will follow this particular thread and DSLR thread regularly.

Not that I am some expert. E.g. I can't justify to SWMBO why a human needs to buy that long exotic lens instead of upgrading one's vehicle.

But:

The problem here is the light, a little harsh. IMHO. But only if that matters to you. E.g. I have very seldom keepers nowadays if I am not shooting when the light is right (I don't want to get into composition, very subjective).

Perhaps a artistic solution (lol): convert harsh light photos into B&W.

^^These were shot by Sony DSC-HX300, hand held. Actually I myself like that extra 'punch', (if you like) of light. Especially the first one was actual lighting, sunny and hazy. Added to that I am so poor in PP, everything I try becomes worse than the original, so I left it as it was. Same with composition, I like to frame it as much as possible than to crop it later. Thanks for comments/ advise.

This one, taken with my Mobile camera.

Re: The Official non-auto Image thread

Though we've seen so many pictures of sunrises and sunsets here I particularly love the contrast in these two pics I took during a geophysical survey cruise between Chennai and the Andamans a couple of years ago in Nov-Dec. The first one is at approximately 7 AM and the second, about 12 hrs later. Totally unretouched, taken with my Sony Xperia Z smartphone. I took pics of the sunrise and sunset almost every day for a month and every one of them was unique.

The cloud formations and light are very interesting. You are lucky to have experienced such sights.

Sharing a couple of photos. Different types. I prefer the first type nowadays, though I will still drive 5000 km to meet a a big cat :-)

Misty sunrise over the terai grasslands of Dudhwa National Park, near the India-Nepal border. Shot from a forest rest house while listening to deers giving predator warning calls.
