Samurai, Appreciate your comments and correction, but it is the tallest wild bison or buffalo then, the wildlife book written by Neginhal too refers to this species as as Bison. Cape buffalo is is heavier than Gaur but not taller. |
Gaur belongs to the same Genus (Bos) as cows, calling it wild cow is more accurate. The American/European bisons belong to Genus Bison. Apparently even the Cape Buffalo isn't a bison. Source:

I know some people call it Indian bison, that is wrong terminology.
@ Fazal,
I wish the HYD-BLR Highway was as inviting forever! Had met Devidas at Boat Club few weeks back and he mentioned that you two had been to Bandipur, etc. And the result of the trip is already here! :) Even though I had visited these places many times, I did not have a camera then and so, I need to visit again once I get better lens for my D60!
@ TG:
How much did you bribe the pups for that fantastic shot? LOL! (I guess I am getting influenced by Clevermax!)
I have few pics to contribute. Will do as soon as I reach home !

Samurai,
Totally in agreement with your reference to the definition of Gaur. Thanks.

No, it won't. Gaur isn't a bison, so that honour goes to African Cape Buffalo.:) In India we only the domestic variety of Buffalos. |
Gaur (
Bos gaurus) is indeed known as Indian Bison.["The book of Indian Animals" by S.H.Prater] Further, we do have Wild Buffalo in India. [

Some contributions from my side.
All shot around my house in New Jersey.
All are shot with Rebel XSi
The flowers are shot with 18-55 IS kit lens.
The bird is with 55-250 IS.
Also, some shots are of 4th July celebrations this weekend in NYC - Hudson River. Shot with XSi and 18-55 IS kit lens with tripod (of course !!).
Comments welcome.
@abhijitaparadh: The firework pictures are great. Did you use remote shutter release..
@TSEA
No. I didnt use remote release. In fact, I didnt even compose pictures nicely, I was too busy enjoying it myself through my eyes, than shoot through camera. :)
@abhijitaparadh: Given the cirumstances, your pics have turned out really well.

Great Pics!! Looks like the weather was nice too. I remember last year I was at the River for fireworks but it was raining and destroyed the fun! Were you there last year?
Yes. I was there last year as well, but didnt have XSi or tripod then.
Also last year fireworks were over Brooklyn Bridge. So couldnt get proper view from my place in New Jersey.
@Ardy, first picture is nice and could get better with some photo-chop. Where is this location? seems a bit dry though

The pictures are as taken except for resizing to TBHP standards.
The first picture is somewhere between Seoni and Nagpur on NH7 (near Pench National Park). Rains had just reached there and hence you don't see too much of greenery yet.
