Basilique Notre-Dame de Montréal

The Official non-auto Image thread-img_4697.jpg

The Notre Dame Basilica of Montreal is located in the historic Old Montreal district of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The church was built in 1829, and it is one of the most beautiful churches in the world. Shot on the 31st of October 2010, exactly an year ago. Nostalgia!

TG, great photo - but have you adopted this critter? He seems to adore you and hangs around waiting to be photographed! :-)

Nice photo. I liked it!

Regards,

Slightly edited to enhance the blacks. The pots are of size around 2 inches. Using one clay pot, wanted to convey that not everyday in our life is as well crafted and finished as the other days (well finished pots). Life is all about ups and downs.

Love this one Alok, well done.

Here's one from me. Blackwater falls, West Virginia. Shot this at f16, I should have avoided that but I don't have a 4-5 stop ND filter yet :(.

Here's something I clicked about a month back. Hope you all like it

Yeah an ND filter would have helped, a graduated one would have been even better, to get the sky. Or maybe you could have composed it with lesser sky. I was in a similar situation a week ago, and I changed my composition with lesser sky to come up with this one.

You should get the graduated one soon, with a clear sky this is supposed to be a classic shot.

I am too busy processing my 2010 RAW files all these days, no idea when I will be able to cover up the back log. This is from my Elinchrom test shot. Not sure if the ears had to be blackened to get a different feel !

No, its an single exposure, but I have done a bit of tone mapping. Its not possible to take multiple exposures of this place without having people walk into your shot!!

TG and Shaju,
Thanks. I was not clear enough in my last comment. I did use a 2 stop ND filter and I wish I had a 4-5 stop ND filter as I wouldn't have had to stop down to f16. My problem is actually with the trees/leaves, they look soft (may be diffraction at f16) and ideally I'd have loved to shoot at f8 or so. Not sure, if GND would have helped much here because the sky had a cloud, very few traces of blue in it.

Shaju,
I like the composition but the light is missing on the ears as you rightly pointed out and I think the angle could have been slightly higher. Give it a shot again, it will come out well.

Yea, it stuck me later, how could I think you get a long exposure with milky effect when the sky is shedding a disturbing yellow tint into the frame !! Probably stacking filters would solve the situation.

About the ears, I meant completely darkening it out so that only the face pops out as I posted here 500px / Photo "Happy" by Shaju Joseph Its a test shot anyway, need to experiment more when time permits.

Na, doesn't work for me. I like to see details, making it completely black looks like just the heads are sticking out of no where :).
