@punter
I wish you included more sky and less water in the first image.

I think he is shooting the water as the primary object. It is similar to a old shot of mine.

@samurai
Yeah, maybe, but the composition is quite weak...in both the cases. as Me as a viewer, I am not able to decide what to look at.

You still need to expand your horizons before passing judgement like that. Water is the object, that should be obvious, at least in my photo.

It's not obvious, especially in your image, since my eye gets drawn to the reflection on the sun, the vegetation floating in the distance and the overall alignment of the horizon, which appears to be a bit tilt. It doesnt really communicate anything to me. Thats why i said the composition appears weak. Even if water is the main subject, my point is that, it must be shot in a visually pleasing manner. I am not saying that the images are bad. All i am saying is that the composition is weak. Its only meant to be constructive criticism!

Regards,
TG.

One from the street experiences in Chennai. Overall the trip became a nightmare to me having an upset stomach and a complete fasting on water to solve that. May be better luck next time.

I wish, his eyes were in focus and the car and the walking guy were missing, would have made it a period pic.

Don't get lost in technicality.

The object of the photograph was to capture the wake of the houseboat I was travelling. If the horizon is at an angle to the direction of the houseboat was travelling, I couldn't help it much. I didn't want correct it since I was in an angle, it is very slight anyway. I normally compose my landscape images to have multiple layers, so reflection, floating vegetation, trees are the secondary layers I needed. I feel it reflects real life.

BTW, what do you think about the following image, the technicals are fine here. Would you still reject composition?

@samurai
I did not get lost in technicalities at all!
I was talking of composition and composition alone. I regard composition much higher than technicalities. Technicalities refer to your Shutter speed, aperture, iso, equipment and a lot more. What I was talking about is basic composition and factors relating to how your image is received when it is viewed. If you felt the elements in your image add life, then keep them but place them in a visually appealing manner. The patters and shapes your image brings out is also a very critical part of composition.

The second image you just posted is brilliant. Much superior composition! And a stronger visual impact due to minimal distractions. I believe when u have some element in your image, it should have a purpose, else do not have it in there.The rather plain sky and distant vegetation, make me focus on the water thats rich in gradient and that smooth texture created by the ripples.

Regards,
Tg.
