Right Nitin, but the SLR crop factor has nothing to do with it. I have blown up 1/10 of the original image and then sharpened it.

That is really good. Excellent composition too. Can be mistaken for a macro shot.

Pardon my ignorance. Can someone explain me what a macro shot is?

Also, how do you guys get the focus on the object itself and the rest not in focus?

When you use a very high aperture value, the background would be blurred and only the objects in focal plane will be clear. So use high Av for Portraits or wildlife and low Av for scenery/landscape.

Correct. And in cameras the Av would be in terms of f-stop. So the lower number would indicate a bigger aperture. And if you have a control on the subject try to compose in a way that the background is at the farthest from the main subject so you'll get more 'out of focus' are

@all: Thanks for the compliments.

@crazy_driver: Refer this for details of macro/close-up photography:
Macro photography - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Even though the lens I used had macro mode (magnification 1:2) I still was about a meter away from the subject.

Thats a cleeeeaaaaan pic. I have tried these kind of long night exposure. What i ended up with is not good at all. But then they were all with film(elan2e, evaluative). I was not sure about gk vale's mass film developing process.
Anyway, coming back to this image, how you exactly you decide on the amount of exposure??

Thanks gkrishn, for such shots usually start with 0 exposure compensation, and then move towards the -ve ev (i like my night shots to show more detail rather than the halo of bright light around it).
For this shot, f10 was good enough to get the DOF (because of the distance i was shooting from), and then clicked a few shots by adjusting the shutter speed to get different -ve exposure bias values.

What about WB? With too many different type of light source.
Do you switch it off and correct that in PS? Having a proper WB will help a lot in getting such a clean shot i guess.
