Congratulations on the purchase! It sure is an awesome lens, heck you can buy a hatchback for its price. I used a 500 prime during a recent trip and the quality was simply amazing.

Wish you got some clear shots (unobstructed) of the myna.

Bluevolt - Whtas the WB setting you use? The colours look unnatural.

Good start R2D2. The OP should gladly accept a 2X TC which will make it a 600mm beast at f5.6.

Thanks robimanta. That's a great shot of the Thrush. That 500mm must have been a beast to handle even if on a tripod.

Thanks C300. At this time I am still getting my head around the lens especially the weight. Frankly I underestimated the experience of lugging around a lens this heavy.

A TC will come in due course. It's not on my priority list as of now. Attaching one may necessitate the use of a tripod although VR would help to reduce shake. My uncle and his friends are avid birders and I intend joining them on their outings some day. Weekdays can be killers. Looking forward to a long weekend where I can put this thing through its paces.

Regards,

Good start dear. Now wipe off that smudge around the glass, I know you have been kissing the glass since 3 days Its not really a birding lens on our D700, but would be great to see it perform on a track, indoor games and wildlife (animals). I feel even a 600mm would be average reach for birds on a full frame unless you are shooting only Pelicans and Flamingos that are huge in size !

Not really a photo but collection of photos. A drive thru arches national park (1080P). I use mortscript for interval shooting on my phone, wrote my own script. Also have vegas to zion national park (almost killed my battery), and some more.

Movie made in picasa, wish it allowed faster speeds.

LOL! You had me in splits! Ah Shaju my dear friend, believe me I keep all my lenses and camera antiseptically clean. Absolutely agree that a 300mm isn't pure birding lens for sure, even with a 2X TC on a D700. But 600mm is where you begin. Uncle's using a 300mm F4 with a 1.4x TC on a D90 for an 35mm focal length equivalent of a little over 600mm. And believe me he takes pretty good bird pics with that kit. His birding gang is one enthu lot and it is that enthusiasm I need to pick up never having gone for photo club outings earlier.

Cheers!

Nice colours. The first shot looks a bit soft - the focus is not on the flower. What was the aperture?
