Re: The Official non-auto Image thread

I went to Sunnyvale/SF this last weekend to visit my sister and her family. Added some new filters (inspired by Shaju ), I got a 46-52-67mm step up rings and a Hoya ND 2 stop filter. 46mm because of the panasonic 20mm f1.7. 52mm for my 50mm and 67mm for the 70-200 f4. Also, I had a CPL from before for the 50mm. Stacked the CPL and the ND 2 stop and did a small test run at Muir Woods. I didn't quite like the composition, but liked the end-result, so here goes.. (More photos from the trip over the next few days):

EDIT: Adding a CPL in between does wonders, if you guys have not tried it yet, you should. The colors come out really well!

Lovely result. You should try the same combination at blue hours, it would be mind blowing.

These days I am trying my newly aquired CPL for landscape shots. It does add some depth to the colours.

Good info about step-up rings. Any impact on IQ because of the multiple rings stacked up creating a gap between lens and filter?

Landscapes using CPL!

I dont like CPL for landscape with sky, my experience is bad. It creates unreal sky and left unbalanced color. I prefer GND filter.

I use CPL to take water shots, where it reduces water glare.

Thanks Shaju. I have some more shots with the same combination and I am already blown . I guess, I will get into landscapes next. Things to add to my system would be ultra wide angle and a good/sturdy tripod. The tripod I was using for this was a mini-tripod, not the best to work with.

Where was this? Very nice photograph, smiles make me happy.

My eyes are bad when it comes to judging IQ by adding new glass. But as far as I noticed, there wasn't much of a difference in IQ/sharpness. Though I am really struggling to get the sharpness right these days in post processing.

Thanks Pawan. I used CPL to shoot sky and it did pretty well, am not sure why it would have been different for you. If you could post some photographs, it might help me understand a little better as to what are the side effects of using a CPL for skies.

You should, landscape will be very interesting around your place. I got my cable remote release couple of weeks back, not yet taken out. I am sure I would have ventured out few times by now if you were here Most important thing is, one cant go out alone to remote areas here before sunrise, its very dangerous and risky specially carrying expensive equipments. So patiently waiting for company.

Previous shot was from Kokkare Bellur, part of Discovery Planet trip on 4th June, processed it today after sleeping over it for 32 days

I understand what you're going through . I hope to get my license soon and venture out to new places here and explore. Let's see how that goes. I have a backlog of lot of photographs too, just not in the mood to process. Have lost a lot of enthusiasm I guess.

Re: The Official non-auto Image thread

Another one that I tried. Not sure which filter is causing vignette only on one side.

Rodeo Beach, CA.

EDIT: Looks over-sharpened when compressed, but the sharpening on the full size looks okay.

Looks fine to me the vignette only on the left side, except for the compression. Even my 1st image lost quality due to the compression factor.
