I remember them charging some Rs20-50 for changing from large SIM to microsim (the price for new sim card).

I read that for about ₹70 you can get adapters for nano- and micro- to the regular mini-SIM.

Airtel swapped my micro sim for a new 4G regular sized sim without any charge.

All that was needed was an SMS from my old sim with some code.
Server issues delayed the swap but it happened without any additional intervention.

Guys, is any of you experiencing any issue with incoming calls on the Airtel 4G sim?

For the last couple of days, no one has been able to call me consistently.

Whenever someone tries my number, they get the message: number is either switched off or not available, pretty much every time.

All the while, there is complete coverage on my phone. No issues with LTE as well!

And it's not just me who's facing this issue. Plenty of folks in the office upgraded to 4G sim as well, and they all are facing similar issues.

First, I thought it was my phone which was causing this issue. Just today i found out that it isn't just me who is facing this issue.

Anyone here faced any issues like that?

I think you're being a bit unkind there. Unauthorised sim swaps are the favoured way for fraudsters who have access to your credit card number to receive OTPs SMSed to you.

And in countries where mobile money is big, unauthorised SIM swaps are the biggest threat to the Mobile Money operator's credibility.

In both cases, actual loss of money is linked to an unauthorised sim swap. Glad they have worked out something for convenience, but this system of assuming that possession of the original = ownership is not a good idea. In most operations that person would have lost his job had there been a customer complaint about the sim swap, because he has no backup.

Particularly in scenarios where you have multi-sim (same number, multiple SIMs).

I haven't faced any such issue here in south Mumbai. But I find network is patchy. Speed looks good as of now. Here's my screen grab -

If you do not ascertain the ownership of the SIM before you swap it, you may well be enabling identity theft.

You still haven't answered the question. What particular fraud that was impossible in micro sim becomes possible by swapping into nano sim?

Valid point. I'm referring to sim swaps as a process, not specifically std-micro-nano.

We are only discussing the process of swapping a perfectly working sim card from one size to another. It does not add or remove any feature, and definitely doesn't make it less or more secure. In fact, they ask us to SMS a code from our working sim, to ensure they are swapping a valid working sim of a particular number. An hour later old sim stops working, and new sim springs to life very next moment.

We all understand the need for bureaucracy in case of lost sim or damaged sim where the authenticity needs to be proved.
