Computer monitor recommendations?

Hi folks,

Christmas time and the upgrade bug bites!

I am looking for a 19" wide screen LCD monitor to go along with my Antec SLK3000B.

Zeroed in on two models so far:

1. Samsung 940BW
2. ViewSonic 1912WB-3.

Also, I will be removing my XFX Geforce4 Mx440SE (4x -- 64 MB DDR) and replacing it with an 8x AGP card (with DVI + VGA out).

1. Which one in your opinion is the better of the two above-mentioned monitors.
2. Which AGP card to go with? I am looking for something entry-mid segment ( ~ Rs 3000/-) . I am not heavily into gaming.

Thanks in advance.

i think the viewsonic comes with in-built speakers too. the clarity & stuff are pretty much the same. the viewsonic is slightly cheaper than the samsung.

The Viewsonic is better...the 940BW shows a bit of ghosting while playing games.

If you have zeroed in on these 2, then Viewsonic is better.

If you're still open to more options, then check out AOC! They're not a well known brand but makes good quality monitors and now it's cheap too. It was couple a times given BEST BUY awards from Chip etc..
I own a 19" wide LCD made by AOC. And I find it good VFM. Have'nt felt any ghosting as the response time is 8ms.

I have the 940 BW. It's fricken awesome. Absolutely no ghosting. Excellent colours. The movies also look fantastic.
Go for a 20" widescreen if you can. It's a whole new world.

Oh and before I forget, the 4 ms response time is grey to grey. The actual response time (black to black) is over 10 seconds.
But these days all manufacturers quote the grey to grey times. So it's a fair comparison.

Go for monitors with LG-Philips S-IPS panels. They are by far the best. They give widest angles and better color reproductions. Though some of the lag a bit on response times. But all the latest models come with Industry standard 8 m/s.
Check out the NEC model with S-IPS
Or the Enzo
Or Apple

19" inch models.

Sounds interesting, what are the prices like? How much did you get your monitor for?

Apple would burn a hole in my pocket. Can you tell me the approximate prices of the NEC, Enzo?

Also, has anyone use Point of View graphics card? I am getting pretty low quotes on them vis-a-vis the MSI cards eg 6200 256 MB (for Rs 3300) [The MSI comes for 3100 for the 128 version).

Hi folks, I settled for an LG monitor in the end - a 17 inches one at that. It has 1600:1 contrast (and not 1400:1) as mentioned on the site and I sure am impressed. I felt the widescreen 19" monitor was an overkill for plain jane word processing , browsing, and the occassional gaming.

Thanks again for your suggestions.
