Thanks R2D2 for the tips.

I will check the lens and mount it properly if it is not.

Hi BV, from Gurudutta's photos I does look as if the kit lens has the VR emblem tilted to 2 o' clock after the lens is mounted. Since you have the same lens (18-55mm) then it must be mounted OK. As far as I am aware this is the 1st time I have seen a lens with the VR emblem at 2 o clock when it's fully mounted. My bad. stupid:

Bought from Nikon Authorized dealer. I got a good deal for 35,500 with bill and 2 years Nikon India warranty + 4GB Card + Nikon Bag. I paid 800 + 100(12.5% Vat) for Hoya HMC UV (C) Multi coated filter.

Congrats Gurudatta. Wishing you many happy shutter counts ahead :thumbs up

Thats a nice bag Nikon India offering with the SLRs.

I recently tried connecting my D-90 to the TV and it didn't work. I have a Onida CRT TV......

I had used my D90 (previous cam) with Panasonic plasma without any issues. A good reading of the manual might solve the issue.

Congratulations !! Why such a long wait ? Did you place a customized order with Nikon by any chance ? By the way, that bag has a royal look and finish, love the design. I have seen only canvas/nylon finish Nikon bags (black) so far. :thumbs up

@ R2D2 / C300 / shajufx: Thanks!:thumbs up. Nikon D5100 is not readily available in stores(Bangalore/ Goa) as it is priced closed Nikon D5100. Here some dealers were selling for 45K during Ganesh festival in Goa.

The Dealer handed Nikon bag which came with the D5100 since, it was damaged(Small cut) in transit he gave me D7000 Bag. There is huge quality difference in D5100 & D7000 bag.

Attachment 606441

Ya..Its looks the same....The Texture on D5100 Bag looks like low quality material where as this one is soft.

My D5100 sets ISO 3200 (Auto ISO) for indoor shots is that normal?
The Bag & box snaps are clicked using D5100 in auto mode at ISO 3200.

I checked the exif data and found the ISO at 900 for automatic mode shoots.

Experts can clarify on this.

I have never used the auto-ISO feature but I assume it can vary based on the light available in your metering area. Hope you guys also can set the minimum and maximum for that feature so that it doesn't overshoot to the maximum and spoil the image completely. I think both D3100 and D5100 may not give decent result in low light above ISO-1600. Test your maximum usable ISO and keep the upper limit to that figure.

Nikon as the best implementation of Auto ISO. The auto iso is mostly a safety shift. Its shooting at ISO3200 because of the aperture and shutter speed you have set up iether in manual mode or in any of the auto/programmable mode.

You can disable this safety shift function.

The idea behind this implementation is absolutely terrific for Wildlife photographers chasing flying wildlife as the exposure keeps changing. Setting a specific shutter speed and aperture and letting the Auto iso to adjust ISO based on the scene just helps to capture movement.

For me this is a terrific feature unlike in Canon where it has some upper and lower limites and the implementation is pretty messy.,

It's a simple AV cable, read my previous post. My Canon PnS works with the same set up. But not my D-90. Its a CRT TV.

The ISO 560, 900 and all those in between numbers is definitely due to Auto ISO :). AutoISO is set by default, and can be disabled. As you mentioned you can also further tweak it by :

a. Max ISO allowed for Auto
b. Min shutter speed (lets say 1/30) beyond which it will hike the ISO.

D5100 & D7000 have pretty good high ISO performance, and even 3200 looks very usable.

I prefer to disable it, and use the Fn key to be assigned to ISO. I guess its down to individual preferences.

Will I be able to shoot night trails with D3100?

You should be able to shoot night/light trails with any moder SLRs. Its the shutter speed that matters most for light trails. You will require a tripod or a firm surface to place your cam.

Experts,

I have a D3100. I need ideas on what themes can be used to create an album. Last weekend I used the 'WINDOWS' theme and did a photowalk capturing different types windows in the old city. Monsoon is not a great time to go to the wild so would like to get feedback on more 'theme' ideas.

Hi, guys I am looking for a Raynox DCR 250 Macro lens for my Fuji HS10.
Preferably in and around Mumbai or any place within India.
