Any latest news on the launch date for the Nikon D800 and its approximate pricing?

It will happen next year this year the mirror less are coming !!

GD, it was rumored to be mid of September and was reconfirmed by my friend in US as he got the info from the main dealer B&H. But things are going far beyond the dates. Japan tsunami caused and unexpected delay in all their new launches, specially the FX bodies as Nikon's main plant was located in the worst affected area.

Bought a Sandisk 8GB Card for my D3100 for Rs. 585 from Croma. Now I have 8 + 4 GB = 12 GB space for storing images which is sufficient for a newbie like me. :D

It looks like a class-4 card.
I think class-6 or greater is recommended for HD-videos.

(Flipkart rate for the above card is 540).

I too am looking at buying a new card, but waiting for prices to fall (16 or 32 GB).

D3100 don't record videos over 10 mins, so I bought the same card with double capacity which came as stock with my camera. This camera will be used mostly for still photography. Video recordings have to be done with Sony handy-cam.

And about flipkart I think buying anything electronic from online causes warranty issues?

The speed of the card doesn't affect the duration of the video, rather the speed at which the camera can write/read to the card. In case of HD videos, more data needs to go into the card and hence the requirement of a high-speed (higher class) card.
Not only video, even while shooting in RAW a high speed card helps.

Not all online stores but flpkart and a few others do provide you proper warranty.

My present gear- Nikon D-90 with 18-105mm and a 50mm prime. No plans to add additional equipment in near future. With this in mind, help me choose a tripod between :

Vanguard ESPOD 233AP (cost on flipkart Rs 3610)

Vanguard ESPOD 203AP (Rs 4000)

Slik F740 (Rs 2695).

I would prefer to keep the cost below 3k, but can extend to get the 233AP if its worth. The 203AP is almost ruled out unless it makes a very strong case for itself.

I bought the 'Vanguard MAK S' for my D3100 (Rs.1,800).
It does not have a quick release, so a nuisance to attach/detach.
But quality appears good.

The reason I picked a normal(same one which came as stock) 8GB card is that no matter how large or fast the card is, the camera cannot record more than 10 minutes so it's not worth investing more on faster cards. Also the prime use of the camera is to shoot photos and not the videos.

Have you upgraded your D3100's memory card?

Unless the image is huge, say 20MP or more and you are shooting RAW (hence you are transferring 30MP+), most of the cards supplied with the cameras are fast enough for smooth RAM to card transfer. Faster card makes sense if you are going to download the photos to your computer regularly. Then a card with twice the speed will transfer the photos in half the time. So if you shoot 300 images a day the time saved at the end of the day is substantial. For casual user a few minutes here or there makes no difference.

There are times when you are using a high MP, high burst speed camera (5fps+), that a faster card may help, but how many of us have such a camera and use high burst rates regularly?

Since I plan to shoot mostly in Large-Basic, 4GB with 1,700 no.s will be more than enough for me. My videos may be less than a minute each.

Sometime in the future, I may go in for the class-10 16gb (present rate Rs.1,180 for Transcend).

Today I mounted the camera on the tripod and took many test shots with varying ISO, Aperture, shutter-speed, exposure-compensation and scene-mode. Studying the results on my computer.

I too played with manual settings this evening and posted the results in Non-auto image thread.

Overall I am quite happy with this camera excpet it is way bulky when compared to a P&S.

What is the reason for this limitation of video recording not more than 10 minutes? Sorry I am a novice and trying to learn DSLR.
