Shaju,
I am waiting to try it out too. I couldn't get much sleep on saturday and so couldn't try it out on sunday. By the way, our flickr group will be featured on News 9 soon and you might get to see an interview of mine on it . We called RK for prices of d90 and he quoted 5k more than Jayesh. So that friend of mine just decided to go with Jayesh.

I have rented a 70-300 VR lens from Jayanth. I went to rent the 200-400 but then I had a puny D40 which would have underutilized the power of that lens.
Now I am eagerly waiting for the season to travel. Africa is indeed in the list if they organize something like that.

1.What i want to know is should i just go ahead & get the 50-250mm lens also or play around with the base kit for a while.
2.What memory card should i get ,brand/size-8/16GB?
3.Are these prices good?

Prices in INR - 550d with 18-55mm :40k approx
with 18-55+50-250 : 51k approx
This is after considering the 10% GST.
I am also interested in buying Canon 550D 18-55 IS kit which k_ajay bought for Rs 45,800 with 8 GB Sandisk Extreme class 6 SDHC of value Rs 1980.

Next week, I will be travelling to Melbourne via Singapore and return in Sepember. I checked the prices in ebay/DWI/d_d_photographics, Singapore/Australia, with/without GST.

I find none of these chaps offers international warranty. For saving Rs 3 to 4 k, I do not want to take the risk of sacrificing warranty. Anyway, now, I am keeping my fingers crossed. If I get international warranty with substantial saving, then I may go for it either in Singapore or Australia [either during up journey or return journey].

Speed Pujari,
What rent you had paid for these lenses?

Guys,

Jayesh is quoting 5.9K for Nikon 1.8/50mm prime. Any other place in Bangalore to buy them cheap or 5.9K is cheapest?

Shaju,
I think it's more of a group achievement than mine. I'd say Peevee (the admin for the flickr group) is doing an amazing job . And well, I'd be glad too if some of the directors call me, most probably they'll offer me a villain role, which I'd gladly accept . I wish I get a chance to do a voice over for let's say Sherkhan in Jungle book (cartoon series).

The day I picked up the Nikkor 24~70, I saw another person buying a D90 with 18~105VR with papers for Rs.50,700/-.

I asked my camera guy its rate in grey. He said it was for Rs. 46,500/-.

I also had enquired for the 50mm F/1.8D for myself and it was for 5100/-

The D90 with 18-105 was quote for about 51k (with warranty). And I ended up buying another sonia receiver, Hoya CPL, softbox, flash bracket and an optical receiver. Sigh.

Sigma Lens

Hi,

Planning to get the following lens for my Nikon D3000:

Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Lens

Smart Shopper is quoting 19,345 for this with 6 months vendor warranty, I am getting a quote of 17,000 from another camera shop here in Chennai with 6 months vendor warranty. Are these rates reasonable?

How is the lens in terms of performance(read up in the net that its not as good as the Nikkor 18-200), will be used for family functions and general photography only. Looking forward to the feedback, thanks.

Can someone please, advise what is the major difference in Canon 500D and 550D- I couldnt understand much from the brochure. Also, while 500D is in the range of 37K, 550D is quoted around 51K. Is it (550D) really worth the difference in price over 500D.

Among Canon and Nikon which brand is preferred for a novice.

Just picked up a Canon 500D. I don't think the Canon 550D is really worth the money. But then again its a newer model and is supposed to have better image quality. I guess if you have the budget you can go for it.

Right now I am going to start hunting for 55-250 lenses. Anyone know any place I can ge tit for cheap in Chennai? I am looking at Sigma lenses.
