Re: Smartwatch vs Analog watch | Your preference?

Though I use my Apple Watch extensively, voted for analog. I like myself a classic mechanical / automatic analog watch. I had a few from citizen / invicta but am a few years from buying my first luxury analog watch (oris / omega / tag ). Till then I wear my Apple Watch to work daily as it more than serves the purpose .

Re: Smartwatch vs Analog watch | Your preference?

Smartwatch it is for me.

I am a gadget lover, and took to smartwatches the minute they arrived. The idea of a gadget on my wrist that served more than just tell the time appealed to me perfectly. That said, I used to have a collection of analogue watches. In fact, my wife gifted me a watch case to store my collection. I don't use them anymore and have gifted away a few.

My first smartwatch was a LG watch. I have since then used the Moto 360, multiple Samsung watches, multiple models of the Apple watch and several other watches like the Ticwatch, among others. I even used a hybrid analog-smart watch by Titan. I have not found any that is as comfortable and user-friendly as the apple watch and I do not see myself switching back anytime soon.

Re: Smartwatch vs Analog watch | Your preference?

Voted analog.

Reasons:
1.) Nothing matches the charm of an analog watch.
2.) Don't want to be a slave of another device as a digital watch.

I prefer finding even the slightest ways of digital detox and not owning a smart watch is a way of doing it.

Re: Smartwatch vs Analog watch | Your preference?

I am passionate watch collector. Have around 25 watches in the budget to premium segment.
My best one is a Franck Muller
Off late also have added 2 smart watches to the collection - a One Plus Harry Potter Edition that I love for the data especially sleep.

It's been a daily battle to decide what to wear until 2 weeks ago I decided to wear one on each wrist.

Was expecting ridicule but surprisingly no one seems to notice.
Now it's become a habit and I enjoy best of both worlds.
Worth trying it out if you have to enjoy your collection.
Anyone questions - please give Maradona as an example. He's famous for wearing 2 watches on both wrists.
Will share pictures of my watches shortly.
My all time favorites are the g-shock series have 4 of them and hunting for the 5th since some time
The weirdest I have is a Ziiro Which is an exercise to tell time on.
Planning to add one spinning gyro from RSWATCHES (must checkout for all automotive enthusiasts) and something from the Tokyo Flash collection.
Regards
Harsha

Re: Smartwatch vs Analog watch | Your preference?

Voted for traditional watch.

I still wear traditional watches - digital Casio and analog from Citizen, Titan, Timex etc

Reason to wear traditional -
1. I still feel the style of traditional watches gives best of the looks.
2. No issue of recharging
3. I like essence of that mechanicals whirling inside - fascinated by perpetual or automatic watches.

Reason not moved to smartwatch -
0. May be I am old school
1. I have Fitbit (as a gift) and in prime day's of Pebble, I bought Pebble (bought from amazon.com because of hype). Used them for tracking fitness. Pebble was little extra with notifications and some other apps were available, but hardly useful for my lifestyle.
2. Major issue of recharge every alternate day or at least once in a week. Number 1 reason I dislike them more. That's why I was interested with Ticwatch as they have some dual screen stuff to improve battery life up to 15-20 days. But you loose some smart features, only the essentials. At the end did not feel it worth investing. Wireless charging helps a bit, but still you need to be disciplined with charging.
3. I am not a fitness freak. I have fixed and limited exercise routine. And once I get average of my workout, I do not have much to know. Yes I know I can track improvements etc. etc., but that hardly matters to me. Used both Fitbit and Pebble to track my swimming or jogging laps. But after couple of days they feel boring even with watch faces.
4. Do not like to keep wearing watch whole day in my hand - one of the feature of smartwatches or trackers to keep monitoring vitals/stats. So one less feature to be used.

So would I buy a smartwatch? - most probably yes, but it would be because of its tech (I love gadgets). I am eyeing for a Galaxy Watch 4 Classic (preferably) or 5. However for my use, I would mostly consider smartwatch as replacement of digital watches. So my personal choice of watch is still traditional watches for most of the time.

Re: Smartwatch vs Analog watch | Your preference?

Voted for Smartwatch for its flexibility. Even though, I love analogue watches on occasions like a family function/marriage/corporate events etc. The preference over any of this watches is based on its use case. On holidays, I would prefer a smart watch or a digital watch over their analogue counterparts.

Re: Smartwatch vs Analog watch | Your preference?

I've gone retro, with HMT mechanical and automatic wrist watches. Best part was during lockdown that these didn't need battery replacements!

I've collected a dozen of them in different dial colors and keep changing their straps so it's fun. I had a smart band which I passed on to my parents.

Automatic watches is a rabbit hole and if you like it, then there is no end to it, it's a lifestyle!

Keep tickin'

Yes, I have noticed the features in my smartwatch. But I still don't like it. It is like having an anlalog clock on our desktop. It looks like a clock, runs like one, but it is still a program mimicking a mechanical device! When I said digital watch, I meant a conventional one, something like a G-shock or ironman. Not what are called "wearables".

A mechanical watch is not very accurate, I have to set the time with my phone every few days, but that is what I love! Even quartz analog watches don't appeal to me much.

Re: Smartwatch vs Analog watch | Your preference?

Voted Analog

I do appreciate the convenience Smartwatch has to offer, but can't think of wearing one.

I love Analog watches and used to collect them till few years ago. Till the time analog watches are available and affordable, I would like to keeping wearing analog watches.

Team BHP is very well calibrated for advertising. I am already seeing smart watch ads on the top banner, after going through some posts on this thread. Any other guys seeing such ads too?

Re: Smartwatch vs Analog watch | Your preference?

My vote is for a smartwatch, that too, one with 4G LTE. I am referring to the Samsung Watch 3 LTE that I use. Its just awesome. I can leave the phone at home when going for a walk and won't miss a thing!

But then, I must put this extraordinary copy from Timex. Brilliant really (source:google)!

Re: Smartwatch vs Analog watch | Your preference?

I voted for digital watch as I prefer a simple Casio square on my wrist even when I’m at work. For special occasions I have a Seiko automatic watch which I adore. That’s my entire watch collection.
My wife has an Apple Watch, and I must say it is quite brilliant but I just can’t convince myself to spend money on that when I can use that money to buy a beautiful Seiko or a Tissot for the same price.
Another big reason for me to avoid smart watches is my comparatively smaller wrist size. Plus I hate watches with big dials ( why are phone manufacturers and watch brands completely ignore people with small wrists and small hands? End of rant)which most smart watches come with. Not a fan of Apples smart watch design either.
But if and when apple comes with a round dial that has a less than 40mm case dia, I will seriously consider it.

Re: Smartwatch vs Analog watch | Your preference?

I'm surprised nobody here has mentioned Hybrid smartwatch, it wasn't even an option! I prefer the analogue watch but do like the fitness features of the smartwatch. I'd be happy with a Traditional watch that looks and works like one but also tracks fitness, which we can check by connecting through Bluetooth via smartphone.

Something like this.
Name: FTW7018_main.jpeg

Size: 22.2 KB

Edit: And the battery on these things lasts longer than normal smartwatches! That's the worst aspect of having a smart watch for me, having to charge it daily.

Re: Smartwatch vs Analog watch | Your preference?

I voted for "No Watch" because I do not want it to clutter my wrist. This is why I also avoid bangles, bracelets, etc. I have loved working on my cars all my life and I do not mind the dirt and grime from them but watches are an absolute hassle to clean. Additionally, metal bands are a risk when it comes to working with car electrical systems.

When I passed my matriculation examination nearly half a century ago, my Grandfather gifted me an old hand-winded Favre-Leuba wristwatch with a radium-painted dial and leather bands. He had bought it in London during his FRCS (Fellowship of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons) days. But within a few weeks, I realized the disadvantages of watches. Apart from the hassle of cleaning it, it would cause skin irritations/infections especially since our locality in a nondescript place in upper Assam had a lot of humidity. Since then, I have not worn any wristwatches
