Remove the lampost(use gimp or something to clone it out)
ISO 200 will be noisy on such a cam, try not to cross ISO 125!

Guys,

I am in the market for a basic digital camera. I am not much of a camera guy, i almost shoot most of my pictures using me mobile. Now the mobile i own is a 5130, which has an average picture quality.

I am looking for suggestions for basic camera with 5 or 7 Mega pixels, within a budget of 5000 Rs.

I dont think you would get 5-7 MP cameras new, now. The minimum new would be 10 MP, and don't buy the 8MP cameras, they would be old stock.

For a budget of 5,000 you won't get any other camera with warranty other than Fujifilm AV 100.

It's a very good camera for that price and it also comes with 720p HD video.

I have shorlisted two cameras:

1. Nikon S8000
2. Sony H55

I am inclined towards Nikon as they are in the camera business for quite sometime. On the other hand Sony is cheaper.

Would appreciate if someone would let me know their opinions to help finalize on one of them.

Thanks in advance.

Nikon's S series are mostly automatic and all you do is only point and shoot. You might tend to get bored after some time.

Sony H55 has manual control (though limited), very different scene modes and an excellent lens.

My vote is for the Sony H55. Don't you worry about sony's lesser experience. They have evolved, big time.

Nikon's point and shoots often fail to live up to the reputation of their DSLR counterparts. Surprising for such a company but Nikon digicams are often mediocre do not compare well to the likes of Canon and Panasonic.

S90 replacement.

I seem to have lost my Canon S90. My fault for leaving it in a friend's car. Anyway I will need a replacement. I cant seem to think of any other camera than another S90.

1. Pocketable (LX3 is too big)
2. Fast and good in low light
3. 28-105 zoom covers 85% of my need
4. Easy to get to controls

Can you guys come up with any alternatives or should I stick to the S90 again.

thanks but that means by the time it hits India it will be dec-jan at the earliest. I cant wait that long. The ther option I can think of is the SX210 but that is a long shot the S90 is so much easier to use.

What caught my eye, however, was the 24x SX30. If it has the same sensor as the G12 (also rumoured) and decent low light IQ it might be a nice amera to consider. However I suspect it will use a sensor similar to the HS10.

One of my friends is selling his FZ18, which is around 2 year old. He says that he did not use it much.
Is there any way to find out as to how much the camera has been used? Is there any feature in this camera to find the number of photos that have been clicked?
What would be the ideal price to be offered for this camera?

I have to buy a camera for my dad. He needs one with simple functions and not very advanced as he wont be using the functions much.

I was looking at Kodak M series as they seem to be much cheaper than the Nikon or Canon counterparts.

Anyone using Kodak cameras here? How is the performance and how are the results?

Can anyone kindly shed some light on this?

Regards

Hi guys,

I'm buying a camera for my dad. He's not too much into technology and wants a totally hassle free camera. He also wants non-bulky camera. I'm currently in US and my budget is $200. I have considered the following:

1. Canon SD1300is
2. Canon SD940is
3. Nikon S570

Most people say that Nikon point and shoots are really bad. I was considering this Nikon because it looks good. Anyways, I'm leaning towards Canon SD940is. Its better looking than the SD1300is, slimmer, lighter. Technically both the cameras read the same specs. Can you guys tell me which is better?

Also, any better options to consider?

Thanks guys!
