I've zeroed in on the Sony H55 as a compact superzoom. It offers 10x zoom(starting from 25mm) and the usual glut of features expected from a camera of this range.

Can someone suggest a good shop to buy it from in Bangalore? I am getting it for around 14.7k with a 4gb card and a pouch.

Contact details of the shop will be much appreciated

Ok.. got myself a Panasonic FZ35 with B/W 3 yrs for 27k with all taxes..
Without it was 20k something which i didnt opt for. ( i prefer to buy with B/W)

Dealer gave me a Class 2 8GB mem card.

Tanveer, that spare card which we talked about. Please reserve that for me

Saw a Fuji HS10 as well.. found it to be little bit heavier and lil complex to use.. I am a amateur photographer upgrading from Olympus 350sz with 64 mb which served me for good 6 years.

Thanks Tanveer & Amit_mechengg for all the gyan on the FZ35 and shop location @pune respectively

Dealer told that when launched, it would cost somewhere around 30k. Anyways, looking forward to getting to know nifty secrets of FZ35 from all gurus here

due to extreme low light resulting in extreme high ISO.

Try a ISO 100 pic with low shutter speed (keep the camera in shutter priority mode) or if you have a fast lens (around 1.8 - 2 aperture) try the aperture priority mode with widest open aperture. Do this on a tripod.

Rahul, camera will automatically select high ISO when light is low.
So go to "M" mode.
Select ISO 100/80
Put aperture at F2.8
shutter speed 1/100
IS - Mode 2
Focus Mode - AF on shutter half press

If you are using a tripod, then switch of IS

you haven't shot slow motion videos yet? it's addictive. My wife complains of dizziness when I show her normal speed videos after seeing all the slow mo videos.

All other numbers are ok, but I am surprised to see that aperture number!!! I was suggested by my friends and also on the net to use f/11 for moon shots. To get proper exposure try 1/80 to 1/250 shutter speed.

Here is a pic taken by me:
The Digital Camera Thread: Questions, discussions, etc.-2952170858_165e43260a_o.jpg

The pic was shot in full manual mode at 1/80 and f/3.1(I was later told to use higher f number!!) @ ISO 100, no tripod!! Camera used is Fuji S5100.

I was talking about P&S cams. For DSLR F8 is okay, for P&S like FZ35 sharpest pics are around F4.5 or something

that's exactly how it works. the latest firmware (1.02) fixes the issue of battery indicator coming on too soon. I am still on 1.01.

Guys,

The horizontal and vertical resolution of Panny FZ35 is 180dpi. Is this better or bad than the competition cameras which report 300dpi horizontal and vertical resolutions ?

Rahul

Anyone know if there is a firmware update to the Canon Powershot A540 or A510? Not the open source one - one released by Canon?
