You might want to call them up and ask. Hope you have better luck than I do.

I called quite a few stores which directed me to their office in Juhu -> they directed me to People's Camera (Fort) -> who told me that they don't have any canon lenses available but some company called Marumi (2x) converter for my S3 costing Rs 3500. I've no idea how good these are going to be but this seems to be the only lens available with them. I asked him if he can order a DC58B Canon lens and he said he cannot do that at present and has no idea when Canon lenses will be available, really surprising.

I decided to check on the Sony DH-1758 lens which would also work on S3 ( I guess it will work on S1 too). After making calls to a lot of sony resellers, exclusive showrooms I finally called up their office at Warden Rd. The guy said they don't have the DH 1758 but can order it if I pay an initial deposit. Guys, should I go ahead and order this one costing Rs 10,000 or go for the Marumi ???

One of my friends is thinking of graduating to DSLR from S2 IS.
He has extensive experience with S2 IS and thinks that he has outgrown the features of S2 IS.

His budget is about $800-$850. He needs a zoom range from 18-200 at least as he finds the 12x zoom of S2 IS a boon.

Of course, based on my experience, I suggested him Rebel XTi + kit lens + 55-200 lens, as I think XSi would have gone over his budget.

This was over a month back, and still he hasnt made his mind.

Now with the launch of XS/1000D, as well as price cuts in Nikon D60, which will be a better deal?
A) XS + 18-55 IS (kit lens) + 55-200 Non-IS ==> Close to $800.
B) D60 + 18-55 VR (kit lens) + 55-200 VR ==> Close to $800

Of course Nikon package offers VR on both lenses, which is useful IMO.
But is Canon XS body better/equivalent as compared to D60 Body?

Have already clicked some 300 snaps in two Hours - Now to read the manual!! lol

Guess at that price point, the 1000D is a real VFM.

Though the cheaper DSLRs like the D40, 350D et al dont match to those specs.

I have used or even seen either camera but based on reports, I'd take the 60D over the XS.

The XS has the same sensor as the 400D.
As for price, the XSi kit is 850$(Street price at reputed dealers), and I guess XS street price with Kit IS lens would be around 600$

It was in Single shot mode all along - Used it in the Green zone all along.. Now experimenting with 'P' - Tried a couple of macros on my wife's flower arrangement :-)

@ Redrage - Thanks - will do . But right now its all ato on default settinngs - Using large Jpeg mode

Reading up on the manual - but I am not very good at 'self-taught' - prefer learning from someone!

Let me see if there are any photography courses I can join. For the moment have downloaded a dozen 40D tutorial video's from the net.

Isn't M really overhyped? I used M regularly until the oldman pushed me into A. Now there is only one situation where I use M, that is when I use spot-metering. I can still use A with AE-Lock and EC, but I am more comfortable using M with spot-metering. Habit, I guess.

KB, if you are focusing on photography, why are downloading 40D tutorials? Forget the equipment, focus on the techniques.

I only use M when I want Bulb exposures, other wise its Mostly Av.
Sometimes I used Tv(shutter priority when shooting action and shutter speed is important).

These are the the hardware tutorials - shows me how to change the settings etc. Here is the first part of a 11 part series.

YouTube - Canon EOS 40D Online Manual (1/11)

Very basic but helped - Faster than the book. BUT still need to figure out the effect each of these individual settings have on the final output.
