Portable IPod music system - Bose SoundDock? Anything else?

Hello guys,

My uncle wants to buy a portable speaker stand for his IPod. And he is very keen on Bose. (SoundDock™ Portable Digital Music System)

BOSE INDIA

This costs 25k from the showroom. He said he is able to get it for 21k in the grey market in Bangalore. He wanted me to enquire if it is available in the Chennai grey market.

Now, 2 questions:
  1. Is Bose the best when in comes to IPod compatible portable sound systems? Are there any alternatives?
  2. Do you know where I can this for less than 20k in the grey market in Chennai? (Reliable place because I dont want him to be duped after paying 20k and also because we have been duped once in the grey market)
Appreciate your early advice, which we really need.

Audio Engine A5 is the best currently available. Avoid Bose at all costs.

Go for Harman Kardon Ipod dock. They are much more superior than BOSE.

I recently bought this one and it rocks. Don't even look towards anything named Bose...

I would like to avoid Altec Lansing after the bad reviews here and elsewhere.

This is the portable one The non-portable one costs 17.5k. Are you sure youre notmixing up the two?

Thanks for the suggestion ROC. But I have a few questions.

Where do I get them? Any owner reviews? What about their *** and warranty? How much do they cost?

The Go+Play (Harman) and IM7 have distinctly different sonic signatures. My son (listens to Black Eyed Peas, 50 cent, 2 pac etc..) prefers the IM7 (which has more bass) my wife (listens to Miles Davis, Ertha Kitt, Oscar Peterson etc..) prefers the (what she considers "more balanced sound" of the) Go+Play.

The IM7 has bass and treble controls the Go+Play does not
The Go+Play has a RF remote control the IM7's (atleast the older version my son have) is IR.

The IM7 is nice for kids as the ipod is safely docked inside. The Go+Play has a nicer handle and is lighter.

We have had the IM7 for about 2 (early 2006) years and the Go+play for under 1 year (mid 2007). The later version of the IM7 has Video outputs as well.

In our house both are used everyday and we have had not service issues.

Pick your poison.
