Re: Inverter Batteries

They should make low weight batteries. It was impossible to lug around the one connected to our UPS at home.

As long as they use lead, the batteries will be heavy (as led!). I think that the Lithium Polymer batteries used in laptops and cell phones are much lighter for a given capacity, but they cost a lot more.

Re: Inverter Batteries

After shifting to new house, i am now facing heavy power cuts.
Have done some basic reading on how to setup inverters-batteries.

To summarize, looking at 1500VA inverter - pure sine wave and 200AH batteries.

this should set me back by 20k-25k as per product prices on snapdeal/amazon.in

in case anyone has done similar setup, could you please post the config?

An Exide 200 AH tubular battery should cost you about 16-18K where you live and depending on the dealer you get it from. In 2013, I replaced our old 800 VA Microtek inverter (giving probs) + Exide 160 AH battery with 2 x Exide 200 AH battery and a 1.5 KVA inverter. The Sukam sine wave inverter was about 8.5K

The battery is the most expensive component in the setup so choose wisely, better to purchase known makes. Ditto with the inverter as poor quality charging circuits can drastically reduce the life of a battery.

Re: Inverter Batteries

Contact Amaron and buy the complete combination from them. I have their previous gen. inverter called Xenon and a new battery "Current" replaced last week. Works well and service setup in the South and West is far more robust than in the North, not that I have ever needed it.

Re: Inverter Batteries

I am looking for good setup and if possible keep it under 20k.

have found 2 options for batteries:
1. buy 2 150AH batteries - exide invamaster 8500
http://www.snapdeal.com/product/exid...ries/631500701
5.69k each ie. ~11.4K

2. buy just one 200ah cheaper exiter inverter plus battery
http://www.snapdeal.com/product/exid...ery/1352824470
6k

For inverters - its big pain to figure out pure sine wave from listings.
going for exide just for this reason alone as upsinverterinfo site mentions that exide has all inverters with pure sine wave format.
http://www.snapdeal.com/product/exid...ome/1708284488
7.3k

i am mostly going to use it forlaptops, cfl and occasionally fans and backup for around 8 hrs.

Re: Inverter Batteries

Assuming that your laptop + CFL are 150VA max, with 85% efficiency you need

(150/.85)*8 VAH ~ 1420 VAH or around 120AH battery, so even a 400 VA inverter with 120 AH battery, will be sufficient. with 150 AH battery you will get around 10 hours of back up.

A ceiling fan will consume about 70-90 VA.

Re: Inverter Batteries

Does anybody know by any chance some higher officials at Mahindra Home UPS? I have two of them installed at my apartment and at my parents. Both are not working and under warranty. However the call center is crap and they didn't even try to fix it till now. It's been more than a month. The one at my parents had failed 4 times in the past 1 year. Its a well wasted 20k investment for me.

Sukam Falcon Plus 1050VA with a 185 VA Tubular Battery should serve your purpose.

In that case your total load will be around 400 VA. Just put this number in equation and see what battery size will give you 8 hours back up. Just note that the AH ratings are for a 10 hour discharge. Faster discharge (less back up time) requires derating. The actual derating can be found in the manufacturer's technical specifications, but for 8 hours 10-15% is sufficient.

Re: Inverter Batteries

We had to change our two year old car battery (Ertiga diesel) due to a breakdown and its in pretty good shape after recharging. I am trying to use it to power 3 or 4 CFL lamps in our dairy farm. We have 7.5 Kv DG backup for the farm so its required just for a short period.

Can you guys please let me know which capacity inverter will support this battery? I'm not looking for any serious investments on it. If possible, planning to do some DIY stuff and brush up assembling skills

Any inverter that uses only one batter will do. Usually inverters in the range of 300VA to 800VA use one battery. For your CFL, get one around 300VA.

Re: Inverter Batteries

Guys, I am in the market for inverter. No experience of it so far. From last pages, I could gather that Exide tubular batteries are the ones to go for. But there was not much information on what brand is good for inverter. So which one should I go for? My requirement would be for 700 / 800 VA inverter. Thanks!

I am using sukam pure sine wave inverter from past 6 years with exide invatubular batteries, trust me, except for water top up and terminal cleaning no other thing has been done and this combo is still working well. Earlier I had a microtek inverter, but its motherboard gave up in just 6 months, which was replaced under warranty.
