Thats a trade off.

Quality is sacrificed to maintain live feed. So if a packet goes bad, it is forgotten.

Otherwise, TV/PC can ask for packet to be re-sent. E.g. Youtube. In this case there will be delays but once video is available, it will play with full quality.

Now, TV will start showing message "Buffering... 4%" as soon as Sachin is about to hit a six

The frequencies I posted in my previous post still hold for ADSL i.e upto 1.1MHz.
So what is this ADSL2 thingy?
It goes upto 12MHz
So if we look at downstream rates
ADSL = 8Mbps max
ADSL(G.DMT) = 12Mbps max
ADSL2+ = 24Mbps
Please note that they are theoretical max speeds.
I have not seen the G.Lite protocol(4Mbps) being used by Airtel at all, and in all probablity they are using ADSL(G.DMT) in all their connections since the same DSLAM caters to all customers.
After seeing your connection speed I presume you are on 2mbps plan. This means that either you have a "poor" line quality or airtel backend is choked.
The best way to check out your true BW is to download a big file through bittorrent(ensure that it has lots of seeds), and use a BW monitor.
for example speed tests always tell me 450Kbps etc., but actual speeds I get are 600Kbps whereabouts including the header packets.

Aren't we all gone way too offtopic? This is Yetiblog and I request that we all stick to it and not discuss the techicalities of a router or modem. I request the mods to shift the discussion bit to create a new thread.

Thanks!

Amtak, this is all a big conspiracy to drive the gentle Yeti into raving madness. I am surprised you are not in on it.

How can Yeti be gentle? Infact I have a Yetigame on my computer which I play during free time. The reason, I not being into this madness is I am no techie no don't understand a bit of it. It is better to keep quite and pretend to be a fool rather than opening my mouth and proving it.

Sam, I had called up the MTNL helpline yesterday as our office guesthouse net was down. I went through the same plight as you did. Rich customer care experience where the operator is yelling at the top of her voice and asking the peon to get her tea. Talking to the neighbour, cribbing about the boss. All this while I am trying to lodge my complaint!!!Want to use more smilies but cannot!

You could be reading out the chorus lyrics of "The Body Electric" by Rush

I'm referring to the Canadian rock band. Don't have a clue who you're referring to.
