The Hitachi atom series is simply awesome. The blower noise is a bit on the higher side, but will get used to it. The cooling is really good but its only available with 1.5 ton capacity and costs around 40K.

Indian O'general is good and will give the same service. I know this because they're our Chennai office account for some time.

At least this time you can listen to the old man for a change.

Surprised that nobody has recommended National / Panasonic. I brought down one of those from Malaysia and the power consumption was so low that the a/c mechanic who installed it didnt believe his instruments. According to him its power consumption was not a huge increase over running a fan!!!!!!!!!! - may have been exaggerating but the point is that it is pretty low on power consumption.

Have bought two more National / Panasonic air conditioners since then. Cools well, is super quiet.

About General (popularly called 'O' General) - they are damn good and keep running for years, but I hear they consume a lot of power.

Carrier is suspect - I've seen too many of them rattle around or break down to have any confidence in the brand.

Btw....LG and Samsung are one company so remember that while buying it ... same stuff inside just different tags thrown on.
If some1 is considering split AC's then i would suggest u get the cieling mouted AC that are out now....they are disceret and cool much better than split.
Have a Stand up tower AC by Carrier at home and it works very well and looks even better.

For a fact i didnt liked LG at all.... the cooling during delhi summers was horrible... used to run the Ceiling Fan at full speed with AC.
I have got rid of it now and using Hitachi now..... huge difference.
O General is also good but even i have heard that they consume a lot of power. Dont know abt abt National/Panasonic will look for them.... as we need one more.

We got LG Plasma's in our house a year n a half back. All same model n bought on the same day. Haven't had any probs till date...touchwood. And about the power consumption, well i dunno cuz i've not used any other AC. But it should be low i guess. With daily use of about 2hrs average, the current bill isn't sky high at all.
