Upon asking the store managers about it, they stated that it is irrelevant since warranty claims are based on the billing date.

What's your view on this?
I generally want my devices or automotive vehicles to be fresh, not too bothered for manufacturing defects but mainly the way they are stored by the dealers. In Chennai, we have rains and sometimes floods between Oct to Dec and the storage solutions are not great for cars or FMCG, to put it mildly. Electronics (sans battery) are typically tolerant to higher temperatures during storage but not so for moisture and water. So I generally buy in dry season and insist to get fresh devices. For battery, it will always be fresh stock so that self discharge however small is avoided. I don't mind losing some discount over it.

For ACs, the star rating is based on the model year as it gets better each year. So 2023 manufactured AC may be having 5 star rating of that year model or may be 2024 model due to production and logistics. It cannot be 2025 model 5 star rating. So better check model year and take latest piece if possible.

For Voltas warranty, please ensure brand installation with stabilizer, follow the service schedule and ensure you have the bill safe. I think it is still 6 months interval with service cost of 500 + GST with first 2 services free. They just clean dry clean the IDU for this price. It may appear rip off but it is a small price for peace of mind.

Check whether you can have an MOV protection added to the AC plug point to have added protection depending on power quality in your city/area.

To add to that, since I bought it from Croma, the installation was free along with the stand as well. That was something I didn't expect.

Now coming to your situation, during the summer time, most brick and mortar stores tend to overcharge and quote ridiculous prices for ACs. A thorough check online and with other stores which have an online presence like Croma, Reliance Digital, Vijay Sales etc would provide an insight into the right price. Moreover, prices vary depending on the brand. Brands like Daikin, LG, Panasonic are sometimes priced near the 40k mark, but 42k for a 1 ton 5-star is just plain ridiculous unless it is a Smart AC with Wifi connectivity and the latest features 2025 model from Panasonic, a new model from Daikin or even LG.

Hope this helps and do look into these matters the next time you or any of your friends purchase an AC

Pardon me for the poor quality image.
Interesting extended warranty. I still prefer LG extended warranty, even though it costs 10K (8k if you are a long time customer).

What LG extended warranty has that Voltas does not
. 2 Services (min) every year. More if there is a minor problem.
. Gas, Radiator and metal parts all covered.

some plastic parts are not covered.

As far as I know, the warranty starts from the date of Purchase, as shown on the invoice of the seller (the billing date).

Yes, rightly mentioned. But when it comes to purchases, its the same hurry both with my dad (for the new car we bought) and my wife for the AC.

I was indeed pushed to make the purchase and later, after installation, noticed an issue - external damage to Outdoor unit (Image attached). AC works fine though.

But when the indoor and outdoor units were delivered, manufacturing month was different for both - May 2024 for Outdoor unit and Aug 2024 for Indoor unit. Salesman mentioned 2025 model

We made the purchase at Girias, Tirupur. Another shocking incident was the sales guy requested my phone. I did not hear him properly and mistakenly handed my phone, but then saw him few seconds later, was about to add a 5 star review mentioning his name with poor English. Later I saw their 5 star reviews were mostly in similar poor English. This
was alarming and such a bad business tactic to see.

I saw here in the forum that purchase experience at Croma was good.

Unbelievable! Delete the review.
You must address such sort of antics right away with the Sale person.

Re: The home / office air-conditioner thread

Dear All, I have shortlisted Daikin 1.5 ton 3 star AC as it fits my usage requirements (limited daily 3-4 hours and yearly 3-4 months use) in Pune city. Few of my friends also have recommended to go for Daikin only (in the 35-40k range). I checked Daikin India's site and found 3 variants of the same, ATKL50U, FTKL50U, MTKL50U.

I compared them on their site to check the similarities and differences but that didn't help much.

I watched many YouTube videos also to understand more about it but didn't find them reliable or really trustworthy.

Then finally I turned to the new smartest tools ChatGPT and CoPilot. Trust me, I feel they both don't know . God knows who trained them . I have shared the screenshots of the same prompts I used to enquire about the above 3 AC series.

Someone may think that I am going in too much details but believe me my curiosity has increased multifold after getting contradictory answers from the AI models.

Someone who knows about which one to go for out of the three models, please help me in finalizing it.

Have you tried calling or chat on whatsapp with Daikin customer care helpline?

Only difference: GTK -- doesn't come with pipes and connecting cables, MTK -- matte finish, pipes and cables included, FTK-- glossy finish, pipes and cables included, don't know about ATK.

I have to buy 1.5 ton split AC. It will be rarely used, once in a week for 1 hr. Any suggestions? Don't want to spend much but need a quality product and don't want frequent repairs/repairs after 1 yr warranty over.

How is your Voltas? 5 yr comprehensive warranty offer still there?

Any idea on Godrej (free 5 yr all inclusive warranty incl gas refill) and Lloyd (free 5 yr comprehensive warranty, no gas refill same as Voltas) OR any other brand with free 5 yr warranty? I need to spend 2 paid PMS every yr to continue ext warranty. Both these will cost less than 30k after bank offers while LG Hitachi Daikin will cost 35k+ and gives 1 yr warranty.

Check out Panasonic ACs. With bank offers, their 3-star 1.5 ton ACs can be had for ~30-31k (excl installation and other costs). In terms of AC quality, they're known to be on par with Tier-1 brands like Daikin, Voltas, Blue Star, etc.

I've been using their 1 Ton AC for the last 3-4 years. Customer service and PMS are pro active. Other than that, it's been a stress free journey with the brand.

The fins are bent. This is not a damage. You can let them be as it is. It has no impact on the AC operation.

Yes, the AC is working fine, but still its like buying a new car and finding dents or scratches. I failed to notice it when the installation team unpacked and installed, and noticed it few days later.

Thanks for your confirmation message though.

I added the 5 star review at shop during their billing. It seems a 5 star review might help the sales person. Later, deleted the review at home. There were several small issues/gaps that I noted to be not good.

Their transportation guy wanted a higher slab cost mentioning the distance +2 kms. He said his odo shows that distance
My Father in law gave him the money before I could ask him more questions.

Bluestar AC 1 ton 3 star was bargained at 33k. They mentioned the stabiliser as 1600, but in the bill, it was 33.2k and 1400.

They pushed the sale saying last unit left and my wife fell into that trap, hurrying me into the purchase.

I wanted to give a 1 or 3 star rating and review, yet to do it.

I’ve been researching AC units for my parents, who live in a Tier 3 town. It’s quite common, especially among major brands, -- for "comprehensive" warranties to come with exclusions.
For example, Samsung’s comprehensive warranty (1+4 years) didn’t cover labor and gas by default; they sell an additional package to include that.
Plastic and metal components typically aren’t prone to failure if the engineering has been properly tested in real-world conditions. I suspect the exclusion clause exists because of user negligence - like placing items on the duct or metal unit which could eventually lead to premature failure. Poor install in another reason I can think of.

1. I still prefer the LG extended warranty as only a few plastic parts are excluded. Rest - all parts, labour and 2 services a year are included.

2. Installation is a big pain if carried out by non technical and/or lazy person. I have had a few instances of such installations. Now a days I insist on installation by authorised company personnel, even if I have to pay extra. Normally large appliances bought on Amazon or from Company showrooms have installation by authorised company agencies. It is only stores like Croma or Vijay sales (amongst others), that try to get installation by their persons. These stores also try to sell their extended warranty instead of the company ones. So be careful.
